Until recently, I took for granted that we could speak freely.
Serious discussion of issues is important to many of us.
An open exchange of viewpoints among ones peers is HEALTHY.

Usually, I don't get involved in the controversial posts.
Nonetheless, I do have strong opinions about these subjects.
Deciding whether or not to jump in can be difficult at times.
Every person should read their words TWICE before posting them.
Reasonable people CAN disagree without the personal attacks.

Given these times, we should choose our words with great care.
On the whole, however, I think we usually get along pretty well.
Don't you agree?

I agree Steve...We should all have the right to speak freely...on our own platform...BUT...As far as I know, this particular Bulletin Board, is not "public domain" but is OWNED and PAID FOR by Steve and Barb Shortreed. THEY have the right to censor/delete/comment/allow whatever they wish on THEIR bulletin board!!!

I MAY be incorrect and I MAY be speaking out of turn and they MAY slap me on the wrist OR they may delete this whole thread!!! WHO KNOWS???

I agree there are some great people in Letterville and we usually get along pretty well. I have noticed however, that we should not speak about any others but our own merchants, which I feel is wrong. We should be able to speak fondly of whatever is on our mind, & not be jumped all over when we do. Learning about signs, supplies, techniques and each other is all part of belonging here and shouldn't just be limited to certain subjects or products. [Smile]

Cheryl I will agree with you 99%.

The one percent I disagree on is the to limit the topics.

I for the most part was pretty disgusted to see a post for illegal immigrants in a forum dedicated to the keepers of the craft.

maybe we should further our alphabetacle clarification of posts

OT - off track
WOT- way off track
PR - prejidus ( sp
AH - A** H*le
CB - Cry baby
KIA- Know it all
JPD- just plain dumb
FL - Free loader
JDG- Judgemental
and so on.........

but hey we can all fit in to one of those at one time or another in some way.
Some topics are fine and others are just not appropriate. but like the TV I have the option of changing the channel.

all in all Letterville is still the best sign site on the web.

I'm with you guys.

Steve and Barb set the rules - and enforce them fairly. I think they give us alot of latitude, frankly. I too thought that the post about illegal immigrants was in poor taste and chose not to respond at all (for this very reason). Why perpetuate it? Steve and Barb could have killed it, but they didn't...and I'm glad they didn't. I'll second the motion about Letterville being the best place on the web (Steve and Barb: Take a bow!). Let the foolish posts be ignored! Shun those who resort to personal attacks! Keep on smiling and learning.

As for only discussing Letterville merchants and their products, I would like to suggest that this rule be dropped. I think that most people will naturally support the Letterville merchants they feel understand their business and/or develop personal relationships with via this board -- and of course those who have the products and services they need. If we can't earn your respect and your business here, why should we expect anything? Because we bought some (very reasonable) advertising? I don't think so. If you think I'm a self-serving windbag, I suspect you wouldn't buy from me anyway.

Lastly, I agree with Joey: Please don't tell him what words to use. [Wink]

Well, from a paid merchants point of view.

I have been posting, reading, promoting since 1998 on Steve and Barbs board, I don't pay to post on other boards for several reasons.

Steve and Barb are not using this board to promote some other buiss. entity, they have made this board they're life(so to speak), I like the fact that they let us all come here and discuss and disagree with each other, help each other and in my case help people with my products which obviously helps me.

I think because of the nature of the beast, "the bills must get paid", this is the Shortreeds site, yes at times we may feel like our toes have been stepped on(and like I was once advised)
maybe they were sticking out too far.

If the other suppliers and manufacturers were to "step up" (the cost is so little in comparison)and help sponcer this sites costs, then why shouldn't they benefit as I or others do.
But, on the other side of the coin, why should Steve and Barb struggle with the hours and hours of effort and the dollar amount of providing this
(on line meet) for the non participating merchants to benefit from, shouldn't Steve and Barb be compinsated for they're efforts and support ???

I still can't beleive the numbers of folks that love this site, come here daily but don't appreciate the site enough to cough up a resident fee, I mean how hard is it to appropriate $50.00 a year? $4.16 a month, whats that a 6 pack on one hot afternoon ?? [Confused]

I don't know, I have been upset in the past about things here, but when I sat and tried to understand all of the reasoning that takes place, the judgement calls and morel issues, well my hats off to you Steve & Barb, I think I would rather sell Rapid Tac products 10 hours a day at a flea market then have to do what you do!! [Frown]

Hey Jon, what a bargain, and residents at $50.00 what better investment can you find these days? [Wink]

I think Rapid Tac is going to increase its "giveaway" at the "residents draw", how bout a CASE of your choice ?? [Razz]

Roger(ok, got my hot suit on, let it rip) [Roll Eyes]
