I have been asked to quote on some name plates... with Styrene. Has anyone worked with this material? Any substitutes? Can I paint it with Krylon? Can I cut it on a table saw? What thicknesses does it come in??????
Any help would be appreciated.

MOST solvents and thinners will eat up styrene! Don't belive me, pour some thinner in a styrofoam cup! Same stuff only not made into a foam!
Don't know what's available in your area, but there are special paints and inks for styrene.

Styrene is a popular material for real estate signs because it is cheaper than masonite or PVC.
It screenprints fine but I can't tell you which ink they use.
It stinks like crazy when cut with a table saw. It cuts with no odor on the router. I'm guessing that the friction against the saw blade causes the odor.
It holds up fairly well outdoors but turns seriously yellow with time. It also gets brittle with age.
Most sign distributors won't stock the stuff because sign people don't like to work it it.
Only one of our local distributors carries it, Montroy Supply. You might just call all the distributors in the Business to Business directory til you find someone local.
