went to the Fremont Solstice parade/Faire in Seattle WA today with my daughter and her boyfriend.
Of all the wild crazy things there, ie, naked people on bikes, strange art cars and such, one of the things that made people stop and stare in amazement, was this garbage can.
my question?............
Is it art?

When I lived in SC, a guy up the road from me built his house out of trash. Pieces of this, pieces of that. A fender here, a hood there. A little roofing tin here, a piece of countertop there. And people want to know why there are Zoning Laws.

I guess art is subjective...I remember in an Art History class I took in college, the prof was showing slides of this of an artist called Kasimir Malevich. He painted a painting entitled "White on White" in which he took a white canvas and painted it completely white.
OOOOHHHH.....AAAAAAAH.
I made my typical wisecracks in the back of the room...something to the effect that , "that's not art...that's birdcrap".
The professor heard me and stopped the class and tried to chew me out about my attitude and told me of what a great artist this guy was and how his "White on White" painting was a totally new idea. I told her in front of the class...."I don't care what you say, painting a white canvas white is not art...any idiot could do that."
Malevich painted this "earth shattering" painting back in 1918. I often wonder if he did the painting just to see how many people he could BS.
I did a project in an art class the night before it was due once. Took a styrofoam ball...painted it black (it was the only can of spraypaint my folks had on hand), stuck some wire in it along with some Pheasant feathers my dad had from a hunt.
We had to show our 3D sculpture in front of the class and explain our thought processes behind the creation.....I got up in front of the class and said, "the styrofoam ball represented the earth and how it is covered with pavement made by man....and the feathers coming out indicate that no matter what man can create...nature will overcome." I then explained that a single blade of grass can penetrate through pavement, and that nature couldn't be contained.
It was all last minute BS. My sculpture looked like a piece of crap basically.....I knew my prof was a tree hugger.....I got my "A" for the project and his unending admiration and laughed all the way back to my apartment.

There is a historical theatre here where my wife and I went to see a play and during intermission we walked thru the small gallery inside the theatre. There on the wall was a wooden box painted with yellow latex, about a foot wide by about 8" high and about 1" deep. Inside was a photo of someone's face out of a magazine. It was glued to the back of this box. On top of the photo was a piece of bologna with three holes cut out so that the person's eyes and mouth showed thru. It was priced at $300.00 and was marked sold. Go figure.

well it depends! 1st of all was the trash can hand painted or was it printed on a gerber edge or a roland pc600?
and 2nd was all the trash applyed dry or did they use Rapid Tac?!?!?!?!?
