I try to expand my horizons by learning new stuff as often as I can. When I saw the step by step that Glenn wrote I thought I would try them in my software. And yes, one of the reasons I tried them because I thought it was an excellent design. However, my original thought was NOT, "Hey, I should steal this design". It was a good design and a well written how to and I simply followed the steps. After I created it using "Pete's Auto Body" I logged off the internet and continued playing with the design. I changed the colors, changed the text, tried making up and saving my own "Gold Chrome" settings in Eye Candy 4000 which I use all the time anyway. I played with it for hours. Introduced "noise" into the background of some of the shapes to add texture. On and on, trying different things and generally just having a good time. At no point was I trying to design a new logo for myself, I was just playing and learning. Days later I re-opened the file to look at it again, made a few more changes, thought it looked cool and put it on my website. Honestly I didn't think anything about it until I saw all of these posts. Even though it looks almost identical to Glenn's original (and even I'll admit that) I had spent so much time working on it and playing with it it never occurred to me how similar it still looked to Glenn's. If I had intended to copy the idea for a new logo I probably would have been smart enough to change it more than I did. So after reading all the other posts, some personal reflection, and taking full advantage of my incredibly clear 20-20 hindsight vision, here's the bottom line. I Rob Ivers did steal Glenn's ideas (with no malice intended, I was just taking advantage of the free How to's published on this website), I did phone Glenn and apologize, I did remove the logo from my website and I do apologize to anyone else I offended in the process.

Yea, I agree with you. I did the how-to also..
It was actually the first thing I did on my edge because it looked cool... I thought that was what how to were for.. I even use the sign for a sample here at the shop. (COME ON> all that work just to chuck it in the garbage....
It's not like you called pete and asked for his business....(Well, Thats just my 2 cents on the matter.. -)

Rob,

Don’t know if it was any of my business knowing about this situation. Since it was brought out into the public here in Letterville, I appreciate you taking the time to publicly state your position on the matter after having discussed it with Glenn privately.

Need to say this before I lay me down to sleep:

I've known Rob for many years and had the opportunity to see much of his many-splendored talent in operation. To whomever said in the previous spate of posts (over the tempest in a teapot )that Rob was just an "applicator" and not a designer..... Phpppphst (Raspberry) Rob has a great deal of talent, much more so than most of the so-called signmakers I have met (and believe me, after eighty-odd trade shows, I've met a few). He could teach anyone a few things (if not a lot) about the industry and doing the business, and that says a lot. I have seen numerous designs of his, and been very impressed with his deisgn capabilities...

Uh, that's it. Rob, hope the check's in the mail....

Like they say...it takes a bold MAN to admit his intentions. I tip my hat to Rob and Glenn, glad it's solved.
