Does anyone use Acryics for woodgraining? I've always used Rubber based printing ink with a top coat of clear lac. or urethane. But I would like to use something quicker. For those Pebble Beach hurry up madness, last minute jobs, gotta have it now, type of stuff.

Hi Alan,
I remembered a post where some people were talking about woodgraining with acrylics. Maybe they could give some answers.
I don't know if this is of any help or not for being faster... maybe?
I admire your work very much.

Hi Alan. I use a lot of acrylics. Yes, it is rather easy to do wood graining with acrylics. The trick is to keep your paint flowing. I use a couple of extenders. One is: Acrylic slow-dri Medium from Liquitex. It doubles the working time of acrylics. The other is : Airbrush Transparent Extender by Golden. They are availabe thru most quality art supply stores.
If I can be of furthur help, please contact me.

Hi Alan,
I used liquitex acrylics with the extender also to do some pretty cool woodgraining then cleared over it in the usual manner. it looked great. Mike

Acryilcs here as well. I use waterbased glazes for transparency and Floetrol to slow it down. I clear with waterbased polyurethanes for interior use, and Pelucid for exterior use.
