Customer came in wants vintage looking sign a copper coffee pot with wording ( hanging down from a scroll bracket. Since I can't do metal forming I'm trying to talk her out of it, by using HDU and some copper like paint. Any great metallics out there Copper tone for exterior, please throw me some names and base coats if needed. You guys never let me down! Thanks!

aw man....kinda job i would love to get....copper sheets are so malable...its like sculpting without the chips!!!! you make a form outa wood, lay on the copper sheet and beat it to the shape....now this is not a cheap thing do to..its more of a work of art then a sign.

Copper leaf comes to mind. Clearcoat it or it will tarnish. Ronan has a line of waterbased metallics and clearcoats.

Ivan look at www.luminore.com ,this stuff is great,also look into a paint marketed toward hobbyists called HUMBROL...its from england,i'm not sure what quantities you can have it ordered in but its prett much just soluble copper and lead. Hope this helps

Ivan, I would search the antique shops, find a copper coffee pot, cut it in half and attach it to each side of your sign. Would be a great dimensional sign!

I have found that the customer doesn't need to you you actually doing the work, as much as he needs YOU to get it done for him! This is a good time to find someone here on the BB to do the work for you,ship,then up charge the customer. Hope this helps

Hi John and friends thanks for reply on the BB. The Sign is about 3x3 and the letters will go accross the coffee pot in some unique unconcieved partly notioned way. Any tips will be greatly appreciated thanks.

Pking interesting perspective, but I feel this is a job I will like to tackle, how else will I be inducted in the Letterville Hall of Fame with you pros out there. Maybe paying my $50.00 resident fee is a start. Then making a nice sign would be a good follow up what do you think?

Hey Ivan, I've seen a "cold-plating" process performed on non-metallic substrates. Off hand I can't recall the company doing it, wait a minute, I think it was Shiner Signs in Connecticut. Try a search for them and see if they take in jobs. I know the process can be applied to the likes of HDU and it is true metal that is buffed to whatever level of polish you need. I have not seen copper, but their brass is awesome! Check it out.
