Just the other day, George Perkins made reference to someone washing the inside of his tires after having jacked up the vehicle and taking all the wheels off. On the face of it, anal-retentive does come to mind.
And George, I am not picking on you in any way. Howsomever, I can think of at least one reason that this might be a good thing to do.
Up here in the Northern states, the highway crews put down an awful lot of sand whenever it snows. This works OK for traction and such, but the downside is that a lot of this ends up caked on the inside of the wheels. No big deal from an appearance standpoint. But, be driving along and have a chunk of this stuff break loose, and "shake, rattle, and roll" takes on a whole new meaning.
Regular steel wheels are bad for this, the deep dish cast wheels are even worse. Anyway, sometimes the only way to calm the vehicle's ride back down is to lay down on the wet and sloppy ground and try to hit this stuff with a hose, or pull the wheels off and wash 'em.
The point of all this (yes there is a point) is how many times have some of you seen someone doing something that looks really dumb-- and then find out there is a pretty good reason? And what were they doing, and why?
Like I said, George --this isn't meant to rain on your parade.

Good point Bill!! I have actually seen folks on ladders, with hoses in hand, pouring water into the eavestroughs!!! What a silly thing to do!!! After all doesn't the rain provide the same workout?
NOPE! They are flushing out all those leaves and that clog up the whole eavestrough thing!
Different than the tire thing but kinda the same thing.
