Signs gone amuck? I'm confused, I think those are two great examples of effective signage, Except for the copying of the 2 donut stores I tip my hat to the sign maker of those babies. Although it is extremely readable and of course you can't miss wht they sell, if at all anything could have been improved on it is the lettering.

Guys, I gotta tell ya, the pictures 'donut' do em justice! Those things are HUGE! An amazing engineering feat, in my opinion... I guess they need the exposure- there are so many donut shops out here it is incredible- they are every half block or so all over LA. Who eats em is what I wanna know? There's even a place nearby with huge building-length signs that scream 'CHINESE FAST FOOD AND DONUTS'. I've been wonderin' about those Chinese donuts...

I take offense at these remarks... These 'signs' and other outrageous structures like them are wonderful in my opinion. More importantly they are effective. It isn't often that flat panels with letters are written up in tourist magazines or featured in news articles.
These 'signs' are doing much much more than any 'ordinary' sign could ever hope to achieve. They are landmarks. No one could drive by this place without knowing what they sell... and without reading a word on the signs too. This is what I define as a truely effective sign.
This is what precisely I do for a living... and proudly too.
In a world of sameness, over regulation and computer produced signage, we need a whole lot more of this type of imaginative outrageousness. At the very least it might make folks smile a little more.

ha ha ha ha! has anyone ever seen the Simpsons when Homer swiped the big donut from the top of the donut stand and all the other cartoon icons from the signs in springfield came to life and started trashing the town!!! look out here they come!!
