I have Corel-9 and a Graphtec cutter. I am trying to cut directly from Corel. It doesnt seem to be happening. What am I doing wrong? I read a posting the other day or saw it on chat that you dont need a bridge program to do it. Maybe I was hallucinating. But I bet someone here knows something. I would bet Howard has the answer. If it matters, I use FlexiSign for my cutting program normally, but would like to start working with Corel. I was able to cut a test sample of a TTF, by exporting from Corel into Flexi and modifying then cutting. this was wayy too much like work and I am sure there has to be an easier better way to do things like this.

Harris, Grundy has a step by step on here somwhere on how to cut direct from Corel, ya might have to do a search to find it but it should get you going. Basically you need a printer driver for your plotter providing such a thing available. You are actually "printing" to the plotter, it has to be hooked up to the printer port. When you go to cut vinyl, you assign your plotter as the printer and use the print command. You also have to assign a hairline outline to the text so it will "print" Confusing at first, it soon becomes second nature. Also , a lot of the commands are different for instance to outline text you don't use outline but rather contour.

Hi Harris,
I plugged in a brand new Graphtec 4100-130 last week, and am cutting directly from corel 9. Works like a charm. I loaded the graphtec drivers through the 'add new printer' dialogue in win 98se, piece of cake, I even shared the plotterr and can cut from any computer on my network. It's worked out so well I'm reconsidering getting a plug in at all.
We design full color with fills in corel, but before we cut, we cut & paste the design into a corel template file (.cdt) in which we have templates laid out (for vinyl widths). This is so that we can arrange objects by color and economy and add a hairline outline and remove fills without changing the final draft of the design. Cutting is easy, we select objects to be cut (everything of a particular color, laid out as you wish to economize vinyl), and from the print dialogue box general tab we select a print range of 'print selection', under the layout tab we select 'reposition items' to 'left center'. page size is set to vinyl width x 12'(landscape). Registration for print & cut is only slightly different , from layout tab we set 'reposition items' to 'top left'. Set the origin point with the plotter, the three point system using the light point works great.

Are you asked to manually set the x and y axis point each time you cut? I have made an attempt top cut from Corel 8 and have yet to figure out the settings. Your template method seems to eliminate the x y settings step. Now I need to read up on assigning that hairline.

No Santo, only time I need to touch/set axis point is when I'm doing print & cut and require precise registration.
I'm evolving process for using templates, it's getting better all the time, I've even figured out how to easily create speedweed boxes. I'll post it soon.
For now this is the sequence we are using to deal with outlines..
> paste design into empty page/file
> separate object by color, arrange objects as you wish to cut them (this is where the rectangles showing vinyl width are handy,
> select all > remove fill > add hairline (color doesn't matter)
select all objects of one (vinyl) color > print selection
