This is too funny...a freelance signpainter in Los Angeles got so tired of the unclear signage on one of the freeways in Los Angeles that he took matters into his own hands.

He downloaded all of the specs off the CalTrans website, made a sign and installed the thing in the middle of LA freeway traffic and nobody noticed it wasn't a CalTrans job! CalTrans said he did such a good job they are going to leave it there. They are of course being stern that no one else should be installing freeway signs on their own.

Here is the link to the article in today's San Francisco Chronicle: Renegade Signpainter

Kimberly....that's funny. There are a few places around here that I would like to put some highway signs. Some of the exit signs are practically right at the exit. For space cases like me.....I need more notice.
That guy had some balls that's for sure.

Yeah I saw that on TV last night, yes he was bold to take that chance not slipping and landing on the freeway for sure. Nice to hear about our brothers of the brush. I like his style about his mag sign for his pick up.

I think the hardest part would be dealing with the razor wire. All the signs in certain parts of LA have it to keep the taggers off. It is a constant source of amazement to me what those idiots will spray their crap on out here. I couldnt believe the first time I went into a hardware store here- all the spray paint was in a locked cage. Even at the sign supply houses there are signs sayin you need to show ID and prove you are 18 to buy it.
