Hi All!

I'm doing some spring cleaning here, and I need to find a new home for some old Magazines.

These are not complete collections. There are about 42 "Sign Business" Mags, starting from 1996.
About half that many "Sign Builder Illustrated" , starting from 1999.

If anyone could make use of these, I would be happy to let you have them. I would ask only that you pay the freight from me to you.

I have a suggestion that I am doing myself.

CUT THEM UP !!!!

file the pictures into different catagories and you will have a great reference tool. I saw Dave Smiths setup in England. All his signcrsft magazines were cut up and filed.

Think about it, how many of us have a shrine dedicated to our sign magazines. We don't use them, we don't know where the pictures are that we want to see. My magazines sat up on a shelf for years but now they are being cut up and put to good use. I'll keep some of the articles and reread them but for the whole they go into the bin.

CUTTING UP SIGNCRAFTS? That's got to be against some law. My original premiere issue hangs in a place of honor on my office wall. Scissors or x-actos will never be allowed near a Signcraft. If a Signcraft touches the ground it should be burned with proper dignity.

Don't get me wrong folks but cutting them up makes sense.

They are a space filler if they aren't used. Or you can say with pride that you have the whole collection but what use are they to your business. Do you take an old one down every week and read it or do they collect dust?

They can be cut up as a picture reference source. keep all the sandblasted signs together and all the hanging signs together and so on and so on.
Next time you are designing a sign and you want a bit of help you go to your scrapbook and voila, Signcraft helps again.

I will be keeping the previous 6 issues intact but everything else is for the knife!!!!

G'day folks, heres my take on cutting up Signcrafts. I too have a "collection" of S/c and other sign and airbrush magazines and quite some time back I decided to start from the first issue I've got and scanned everything in each issue that I liked and saved them in different folders so it would be easier to find the reference I was looking for later. eg:Bikes, Trucks, Sign Ideas etc..

This isnt a ten minute job but I just did it when ever I found a litle time here and there. I now scan the mags as soon as i've read em. Sometimes it takes a month or so but I get there eventually. It works out much better than cutting the pictures out as I use to do that from other mags and papers and put into scrap books but somethimes theres another kewl pic on the reverse side and also once its stuck in a scrap book its hard to use. This way you can see them at full size of your screen and just flick through your picures heaps quicker. The other bonus is you still have ya Signcrafts in good condition.

So dont cut.....scan and save its the way to go..

Miles suggestion about cuting up old magazines really got me to thinking (I've got a bunch of old mags that I haven't looked at ages) so I was headed for the scissors when I noticed Rod's idea of scaning. Wow, the best of both worlds, great idea!! Thanks guys!!

I also noticed that Coop didn't mention gettin' rid of his old Signcraft or AMAL (A Magazine About Letterheads) issues. [Smile]

Miles...what do you do when both sides of the page go into different catagories? It makes it difficult, doesn't it?

Rod's idea of scanning may be a good idea.

Bernice When that happens I choose what i want the most.

Rod i thought of the same idea of scanning and decided it would be too much time, cutting is really quicker. I have about ten mags done so far and it took about half an hour excluding the time i spent rereading some articles LOL [Wink]
