I think the original post is resolved. Now I have another problem. When ever I try to use EyeCandy to jazz up my stuff and import it back into Draw it is very pixelated and looks like crud. I have Paint set to RGB24, 125 dpi, no background. I am copying and pasting the exact sizes and telling them to fit on the screen. It's just not working right.

Re-read Glenn Taylors step-by-step last night and I am doing exactly what he did. Any ideas Glenn? Anyone?

I JUST WANT TO GET SOME WORK DONE!!

================================================
ORIGINAL POST BELOW
================================================
I need to use PhotoPaint to use EyeCandy. I am at my wits end on this one. Everytime I am in PhotoPaint and I click on Effects and the drop down never pops up then my whole computer locks up and I have to ctrl/alt/del/end task about 5 times to get out of it then reboot because everything is weird. I am using ver. 8.

Here's what I have done:

1. Tried to install Paint over the original install (didn't work)

2. Removed EyeCandy

3. Uninstalled Paint then reinstalled (didn't work)

4. Uninstalled everything that has anything to do with Corel, rebooted, reinstalled (still isn't working)

5. Updated and ran Norton Antivirus (Nothing)

I have no clue! Anyone?????? I am trying to get some stuff done and I' totally hosed right now.

Dearest Amy,

Breathe...okay, this may or not help any, but when I had probs with corel, uninstalling it all left me having to pop in my windows disk for setup. It would replace anything that was missing, it should give you an option to fix corrupted files. Shout, "Oh God yes!" and maybe that's the ticket. It was for me.

I hope the remainder of your day is flawless.

I think I got it. I checked initialize on startup and now it seems to be working. Don't know why because I never did that before but if it works who cares!

Thanks for the encouraging words Linda!

Make sure you have installed the latest service packs for coreldraw 8. They're available free online here

You didn't say which operating system, I'll assume win 98 or ME, they're very similar.
You may have to clean rhe registry as well as uninstall both eyecandy plug in and photopaint. (remove, clean registry, reinstall) You can do it manually with regedit (not for the feint of heart) or try cybermedia's uninstaller which I have found does a good job of cleaning the registry as well as cleaning up stray files and partially removed programs.
You can get a fully functioning 14 day trial version Here .
I've found it to be a great utility.

If that doesn't work run msconfig and uncheck everything unnecessary from the startup menu, including scanner monitors, picture transfer applications, applicitions other than Antivirus. Reeboot.
It could be a conflict with some other application, I've found Kodak softwares in particular to be messy and cause problems.

If that doesn't work I would be thinking about a operating system reinstall.

Good Luck!

Amy,

A side note: Norton Antivirus and all Norton products are notorious for screwing up applications. I would keep them disabled unless you are going to download something from the internet. All the pro's and moderators in the Adobe forums will ask if you have Norton products right off-the-bat when you post application related computer problems.

Something to think about. [Smile]

Todd, yea, I have been that route with Norton Antivirus and many others as well. Use to work for Veritas Software and we always told people to disable them as well. Needless to say, mine is not running in the background. [Big Grin]

Amy,

I'll be home from work at around 7pm (est) tonight. If you'd like, call me at my house and I'll walk you through the step-by-step.

I had a problem with the cut'n'paste in Corel 8 as well. I think that version tends to screw up the resolution. Corel 10 fixed that problem and I think version 9 did as well.

I'll e-mail you my home telephone number. I'll be up until 11pm tonight. I normally use my answering machine to screen my calls, so if it answers, just start leaving a message. If I'm there, I'll pick up the phone.
