I would like to offer a free Ford extended cab pickup drawing to anyone who would like it. I illustrated this myself in Adobe Illustrator. It is an .ai file. SIDE VIEW ONLY. The color is black, but with a little patience you could go through and change the fills and blends and make it whatever color you want.
I drew a lot of my own vehicles before getting my digital camera. In some ways though, I think the drawing works better for presentation.
Anyway...it's free to anyone that wants it. The only catch is...I don't want it used/given/shared with anyone in the greater Lansing, Mi area and it's surrounding small towns.
I hope this will be of help to some of you...who have helped me in the past.
Email me if you want it...this will give you the chance to see something I've done on my computer, as I'm too lame to know how to post stuff here.

By the way...I have one of the auto libraries...but I think they kind of stink...sort of crude...I'm a detail kind of guy.

That looks good. Thanks, Todd. Say, maybe you could describe your technique. I'm sure that with more and more digital camera use, many of us are adding to our own digital libraries. I know that I am. Perhaps you have some streamlining tips you would like to share to get us from the original digital picture to something closer to what you have.

Jeff....basically, I took a digital picture of the side of a Ford F-150 and then brought it into Illustrator as a template. I locked it on it's own layer....and created a "drawing" layer above it. I drew the outlines of the basic shapes and then filled them in with a combination of new shapes, blends, gradients, etc.
It is fairly laborious. Probably have about 4 hours into it. Seems crazy if since I could have used the digital picture right? Well, when vehicles are dirty, or the wrong color...these drawings seem pretty crisp and realistic and allow you to change colors of the vehicle without too much trouble.....
I would try to go digital as much as I can now...but I like the look...presentation wise of this type of drawing better.

I made a CorelDRAW9 version too if that is easier for anyone.
I gotta figure out how to post those things sometime. I got instructions once, but it seemed like Chineese to me.....and I don't think I had the right software to do it.
Anyway, wouldn't it be neat if the digital auto library guys could have more realistic views like this in their software? Of course they would probably charge an arma and a leg for the extra work, but it would be nice.
I hope this is helpful. I probably should have done a rear view at least too....as tailgates always get a treatment...

Thanks for the compliments. Maybe I should work on a cd that just has front/rear/side views of trucks and vans and see if there is any interest.
To me, the Digital Auto Library vehicles, and the other one (can't remember what they call it) look kind of hokey. The vehicles, to me, look kind of distorted and being simple line drawings don't look very professional....just my opinion.
Maybe the market for this kind of thing is waning due to the popularity and price drops of the digital camera though. Oh well.

I like using Illustrator for doing the detailed artwork too, I just cant seem to find the time to sit and do it. Like you said, it's laborous, and a digital camera gets the job done.
Here's a sample of my illustration technique applied to a jetski, ATV and dirtbike.. I have more of a "comic book" style. This pic is a t-shirt layout I did about a year ago I guess.
