What's Letterville coming to lately?. If it keeps going down this road I think I'll take a hike. Shouldn't "newbies" be told what the village stands for. Help each other out with advice no worries, But Realllly this is getting ridiculous.

Steve
Your post confuses me a little... I see you are a sign shop or at least have thought of a business name to add to your post.
Most sign shops do layouts as part of their business and charge for it too. Why would you come here with a basic question like this...... perhaps you should seek work with another shop for a while or go to school to learn how to do layouts... and then go into business for yourself when you have a few more skills.
It's one thing to post a layout you've done and seek constructive critism for the purpose of getting better. That is a good way to learn. I do it myself from time to time.
It's another to ask others to do your work.
If you were seeking to hire someone here to design a layout for you I suppose that is another matter. If so please disregard this post.
Sorry to be so harsh, but this type of post never ceases to amaze me and I had to comment. Don't take it personally.

iam with bruce....dave...splain yourself a little betta.....are you sayin we should design him a sign or he should not have axed for it??????
Posted by david drane (Member # 507) on :
Hey OP I agree totally with what Dan says, but the way I read the post was that Steve was asking for "A great layout" for free to impress his customer. What would he then do after that - Keep asking the fine people of letterville to come up with artwork for every job he does. I admit that I am not the sharpest tool in the shed but if I don't use my own brain then I don't have a place here to waste everyone elses time and energy. I appreciate the things I learn here and enjoy looking at other tradesmen's work but i still have my own style of design even if it is not up to par with some of the WOW factor that I see here.

Guess you still couldn't get it downloaded as of early this morning! I am not a designer or artist. I am a prodution manager and it is my job to take our designer work and make it come alive. But I agree with everyone else, post what you have a let's take a look. We'll go from there!
Best Regards, Steve

Hey! I need a great layout too... come on everyone! Give me something great! Spend a lot of time on it too! I also need someone to write up the order, purchase the materials, fabricate the sign, collect my money, sweep the shop, fix my supper and massage my temples. Come on... is that too much to ask?
Posted by Lotti Prokott (Member # 2684) on :
Take it easy guys.
Dan said it all, and said it right. Newcomers might need some straightforward explanations, but not really any of these
The way I see it it is a great letterhead virtue to correct, not criticize or even ridicule.
Just another newbies two cents...

can someone design a logo for my sign business?
Posted by david drane (Member # 507) on :
Hey Lotti, you are exactly right. Both Bruce and Dan did say it all and what's more they said it in the correct and friendly way. I had a bad hair day yesterday and I was cranky when I replied. To Steve I apologize for being rude to someone like you who is new here. let me say this tho, words like need, want, now etc. are negative whilst words like perhaps, maybe or please are positive. EG. Question:- Sorry guys I am suffering a bit of brain drain and keep hitting a brick wall every time I try to come up with something good for the name "Advance Chiropractic". If anyone could help me get my creative juices flowing again I would really appreciate the help. Thanx in advance. Stevo. My Answer:- Well Steve, the first thing that comes to mind when you mention chiropractic is the human backbone attached to the skull looking side on. For a start how about a triangle in the shape of an "A" with no centre and the skull and backbone being used in a circle to form up the centre, then panels blah blah etc. etc. Any time you need a little help or a critique please feel free to ask and please accept my apology for being rude yesterday. I don't always express myself as well as I should.

I'm with Lotti here. I think as a newbie I did things slightly different than this fella. I read a lot and have tried to ease my way into this site and the great people I've mey here. You've all been very helpful to me and for that I'm grateful. I think Steve's photo with his Elton john tattoo says it all.
Cheers Lee

David , you just earned my respect with your last post. Hope I didn't come across like I know it all, because:
" Those who think they know it all are very annoying to those of us who do "
I like Joe's idea of using Leonardo's drawing, very classy. It can be found on globalgallery.com, the name of this piece of art is "Schema delle Proporzioni" ( I have no clue how to put a link on here...) Are you sure it is not copyrighted anyhow??? Hey, even "Elvis" is under copyright...

Hi there!
I used something similar on a sandblasted/carved project a few years ago, the doctor had it on his card in bright yellow and black....looked abit strange so we changed the colours for our project.

Here's another related look for a related field.
I did 2 sandblasted signs like this & 1 window sign, but couldn't find the photo.

Steve,
Yesterday Barb Shortreed sent you an email offering to help you with posting your design. Found no response back from you. Offer still stands.
She still can be reached at steve@letterhead.com

Here is Steve's layout. To us, the most important part of a "back to the drawing board project" is the opportunity for all of us to learn. Those that choose to take part in these projects should be prepared to explain the thought process behind their redesign. This really belongs in the Design Workshop Forum, but it can be moved there later.

Steve if you have a mental block on coming up with a layout here is a good way to get by it. The web search image www.google.com has the ability to search for images. Just click on the image buttom above the text entry box then enter the magic work...chiropractic....backbone...bone cracking...whatever in the text box. A few seconds later the images from sites that use that phrase will start to apper. Within 30 minutes you will find a image or layout that will inspire you.
I did this recently for seafood restaurants and got more ideas than I can use in a lifetime! Just another miracle brought to us by the world wide web.

our chiropractor has a great one i think it is a spine built up of little people getting bigger until it has a figure running it is very effective
