After a year of running my biz again on my own, I've finally took the plunge and have hired help once again.
My next door neighbour Kara is a college student and has big plans of her own one day. (unrelated to our industry) She's only available 2 days a week, however just enough to get me out of the office and have the work plug away.
I plan to have her in the office nearly all the time, so I've kept to the designing and offsite work and have handed her the hands on shop work. She was plotting work on her first day and has ever since.
I'm really pleased with the quality she's outputting. Her applications look like mine; I can't even tell the difference! Speed will eventually follow. And I'd rate her A+ for her work ethics. She even works through conversations when the work clock is ticking. Not many people do that anymore!
I will admit, having her in 2 days a week is spoiling me. I'm debating on biting the bullet and getting someone in with more experience as well. I really want to get back into my son's nearly 3 yr old life much more regularly. My dream is perhaps to work 2 days a week, yet still have the workload moving full speed ahead.
Anyway, for those of you wishing you had the nerve to hire, find the right person and take an extra day off. Posted by Bruce Bowers (Member # 892) on :

Hey Donna,
That sounds just great. Would you mind listing the tasks that she does? I've thought about doing the same, but always wonder what I can expect them to do. Do you have two computer stations?
Inquiring minds want to know!
Suelynn:)

That's great that you get to spend more time with Cody! I would love to hire a helper too, but that would mean I actually have work to do. I absolutely stink in the marketing and sales department!
How's Cody? Amber is doing good. Both have birthdays soon!

Donna, It sounds great to me, starting off with quality, closeness, and part time. I am in the process of looking for an all around person to do some of the weeding, taping, and paint mixing, etc. But for a relief, they could assist my 14 year old son in some of the projects he is interested in around here too. That way I can be around, but busy and we can work as a unit together. I am also interested in what Suellyn asked about the qualifications and skills sought after. Sounds like a game plan to me. I am all ears.
