This is a first for me. I applied some intermediate vinyl to a banner 3 days ago. i had cleaned the banner first with alcohol. I rolled it loosely with the vinyl side out. Today when I unrolled it for the customer, I discovered some of the vinyl was peeling off. So I took a hairdryer and re-squeegeed it. The customer is using it tonight for 4 hour function and then for a homeshow banner. I told her if she had more trouble with it I would replace the vinyl with a different brand. Does anybody have any idea what went wrong? Thanks for any advise.

Sure, you didn't clean banner with Rapid Tac or Rapid Prep.
What do you use to wipe with? Paper towell from grocery store? Cloth rag?

What kind of banner was it? Sounds like a "Regal" banner. They are designed for screen inks or hp vinyl. I've had way too much trouble with em to ever buy another.

How long did you wait before rolling up the banner? Maybe the adhesive had no chance to grab...

Years ago I had a problem using intermediate vinyl on a regal banner. I liked the regal banner at the time as I thought it looked better up close in a trade show setting... more like a fine linen. The red intermediate lifted off of the banner while the black intermediate stayed in place. The banner was sent across the country so there was no chance that I would be able to fix it in time for the trade show to take place. The client used some sort of adhesive spray to get him through the show.
Afterwards, I attemted to figure out why this failed. The banner manufacturer blamed the vinyl...the vinyl people blamed the banner manufacturer. I thought that perhaps the red vinyl was beyond shelf life as it was something that I had purchased as a special.
I think that it was a combination of both. Since then (early 90's) vinyl has changed and I don't use that type of banner anymore. (those banners may have changed as well, but I don't know that to be a fact)
This was the only time I ever had a failure like that (so far) and it was not a fun experience. I don't remember if Rapid-Tac was available then or not. Seems to me that there was a product called "Splash" that was an application fluid. I remember having samples but I don't think I used it on those banners.

It was a 12oz vinyl,Ready-roll by Ameriban. I have been using them for 5 years and have had no trouble. I rolled up the banner about 1 hour after completing. (I do that on a regular basis so that I can use my big table for the next project.)
