several weeks ago I posted about a customer who nickel-n-dimed me on some coroplast signs. He went elsewhere, and in the immortal words of John Lennon "..instant kharma gonna get-choo.."
Seems one of the salesmen left about a week after they arrived, which leaves him with 50 or so signs with a name and phone extention on them that cant be used. So, he asked me for someway of covering them up, and relettering them.
I figure screenprinting vinyl would be easiest, as the area in question is about 4" x 12" and 4" x 6" (two lines to cover). I tried some Oracal 651, but it's not opaque enough.
I thought I would see what you guys thought before trying the 'opaque' stuff. I know it will work, but it's awfully expensive.
This needs to be White vinyl by the way, with maroon ink.
If one of you EDGE owners cares to give me an idea on edge print costs, I'm all ears.

the most opaque would be the thickest vinyl you can find and usually the cheapest...try some MACTAC, FDC,BANNERCAL, AVERY A4 0R A5....

not neccesarily true, joe.... 3m automotive perfomrance white,, has a grey adheseive... making it very opaque..... most intermediate films are the same color thru, making them not as opaque as one would think....

Robb, Without seeing the layout, is it possible to reverse the copy out of a maroon panel? What shows thru the white lettering should not be too noticeable.

We usually use the control tac or auto grade scotch cal plus (like Del said gray back)
another idea might be to apply maroon strips over copy to be covered then white strips over with new copy reversed out ... or print a few coats of reversed white on maroon

Thanks for the thoughts, folks. As for using a maroon panel over the white, he wont go for that. They all have to match in his mind, nevermind that none of them will ever be in the same place at the same time...

The comments about grey adhesive are on the money...but for economy (since these are Coroplast signs) and printability (layflat liner)you might want to look at a product like this...

no ... not what I meant. print a white box over the maroon with the copy reversed out (end product being white with maroon letters) might take a couple coats for the white to be "white" but the maroon under it would block out existing letters

If anyone is looking for a nice bright yellow to cover dark colors then try the new designer yellow that Avery Dennison have been commissioned to put out for the new BP helios logos. It is yellow printed on white and has fantastic coverage.
