I guess I'll go down to the museum in DC where they have pictures of naked men on thier hands and knees with bullwhips stuck in thier bums, and Jesus figurines in compromising positions.

Why doesn't anyone think this stuff is politically incorrect?

Whats next? Veggie tales turned into salad? Pepe L'pew will upset the french and he'll be gone. Kids will be stuck with southpark as thier only animation entertainment.

America, where everyone is offended at something.

You scared me with title of this post, I thought Speedy had died. I couldn't take that, what with
Uncle Milty and Dudley dying yesterday.
Speedy will lay low for a couple of years and then he will be back.

Speedy has been gone for several years.
The network has reciently decided to bring him back on a limited trial and see who screams.
Yes, it will probably only take one person whose offended and the poor old mouse will be out of work again.

Any more, it's not what color your skin is, it's how thin is it.

Otero is a Hispanic name by the way.

You know, I am getting so sick and tired of this politically correct bull-crap... This country has turned into a bunch of whining saps. I mean give me a break.. Speedy??? Makes me want to go out wearing some of my old biker type t-shirts that used to say "f*** you.. I hate everybody". What I don't get is.. while trying to protect the feelings of a small minority... they end up offending the majority but no-body seems to give a crap about them/us... Personally... I don't care who gets offended buy the things I have to say... I tell them to get over it.. grow up... get some fortitude... We'll all be better off!

I was thinking about that recently, while sitting with my son as he was watching cartoons on television. The commercial for the Proud Family came on, and I got the impression that the character of "Sugar Momma" was not very different than any of those on the old "Amos & Andy" show. (I guess my grey beard is showing on this one.) The problem was that back when Amos & Andy was on and found to be so offensive, they were the only or a very limited depiction of blacks. Now there are many more instances where blacks appear on TV and in the movies. The same goes for most of the other characters that one group or another found offensive. Now there are so many positive images of these groups it seems that there is some room for showing a humorous slapstick side of life. Bringing back some of those characters would go a long way to making us look at ourselfs a little less seriously.
ANDALE, ANDALE, ARRIBA, ARRIBA!!

I can remember a while ago when some self-righteuos group was trying to ban ALL Warner Bros. cartoons because they were so violent. (they are), but, thats what makes them so dam funny.

The Simpsons creator answered those crybabys by creating "Itchy and Scratchy", and having Bart and Lisa laugh hysterically after every episode. Here, you think Warner Bros is violent? Watch this! ROFL! I laugh at Itchy and Scratchy too, just because I know that group is out there, and its killin them.

I keep waiting for the ax to fall on Pepe Le Pew. Talk about politically incorrect! Sexist, egotistical, smells bad and he's black!

The real humor in the whole thing is that Speedy is quite popular on the Spanish channels. I guess that they need a cultural elitist to explain to them that they are supposed to be offended.

Speedy was always one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid. I really can't believe they want to ban him, but it's probably no different then the Chihuahua dog from Taco Bell, I'm a proud Mexican, but that dog didn't bother me, nor does the Speedy. Epa! Epa! Hasta la Vista!

Some of you might be interested in reading Culture of Complaint, by Robert Hughes...Fairly old collection of interesting essays - still relevant (especially to this thread).

I guess I have to go back and watch all these old cartoons again cause the last time I saw them, you know, when I was like 5 years old, I surely didnt catch the inuendos and racial stereotyping. Are today's 5 year old's that much more advanced?

Hey, at least Speedy has pants on! How many of these cartoons depict characters with no pants, not to mention none of them are ever married yet there's all these kids running around calling the male character, who they are spitting images of, "Uncle" [Smile]
