This is the blurry side.. [Smile]

Actually, I went out tonight to see if I couldnt get the right settings on my digital camera to get some clear shots of the moon, and this particular picture captured something I hadnt planned on..

The moon itself is overexposed and produced a lens flare effect, but what I thought was really cool is in the background.. look real close and you can see sharply focused stars in there.. I dont know if people with glass tube monitors will be able to see them but they're pretty clear on my LCD.

I'm still messin around with learning aperatures and shutter speeds, for the most part I've got it licked but these special shots are a bit tougher.. havin fun tryin' though! [Smile]

By the way, this image was taken with a Canon Powershot G2, a 4 megapixel digital camera with lots of bells and whistles! The pixel size of this image is exactly how it transferred from the camera but I did compress it a little bit to save download time although not compressed enough to lose the detail I wanted to show. The Moon is a very brightly lit subject. In a film camera with medium speed film (200) the whole Moon can be shot with short exposures at medium apertures, say about 1/60 at f11.

Your picture looks cool.

Thanks David, I'll need to experiment some more then because f8.0 is the top (errr.. bottom?) limit on my camera's aperture range and that's where I had it on some other shots that turned out better yet still not focused.. my battery died before I could get it right. :}

does that camera accept lens adaptors? all of the SLR we have we add a UV LENS FILTER....and they also sell one that do fancy shots like starburst, or multi image...if you had a UV filter on that it it woulda cleaned the rays up a bit..

OP, yup it'll accept other lenses/filters, just gotta buy the adapter kit to allow it to do so, which I plan on doing eventually.

Mike:

If you're interested in taking shots of the night sky, you should look for a place that rents high quality telescopes with geosyncronous doohickies. I have a friend who does this (using an SLR camera though) and he gets really cool shots that you wouldn't believe.

Jon, thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind but for now I'm pretty much still testing the limits of this camera. Whenever my ewa-marine underwater case arrives I'll be headin for the lake to try some underwater shots. [Smile] Agh! Too many hobbies! [Smile]

Rob, well the night sky here in Arizona is so beautiful I guess it could be equivalent to an out of body experience. [Smile]
