It occured to me that those of us who are traveling to meets on a limited budget might want to concider Hostelling.
Hostelling International offers accomodations that are safe and comfortable. Originally geared towards students (many traveling with backpacks) they are a fun way to meet interesting people from all over the world.
Most have kitchens where you can bring in and cook your own food, you can rent sheets if you don't have your own hostel sack. And it's very affordable, usually around 12-27 bucks a night.
I had a great time while at a Hostel in Ottawa (the old prison, very unique) and wanted to stay longer.
