Katie has arrived in Atlanta, and after chowing down on crab legs and seafood, we hooked up a video chat with her family down under. Tomorrow, my daughter is taking her "alternative shopping", (I'm not sure I want to know what that is) then we have tickets to see Buddy Guy that night. Those of you who know Buddy Guy's music are sagely nodding in agreement that we're sending her back to Oz with a serious dose of Real Deal Blues.
Sunday, we're heading downtown to the American Craft Council show, where artists and craftsmen from all over the country will be displaying and selling some incredible work. After that, it's on to Stone Mountain and a vigorous climb to the top with a magnificent view (if I can make it, Katie shouldn't have any trouble) If the mountain climbing doesn't get the best of us, we'll head up to Lake Lanier for a sunset cruise on the Poker Run Pace Boat (a 42' Formula offshore racer)then home to a traditional St. Patty's dinner. After that, who knows - green beer?
I asked Katie what was the weirdest thing about coming to the states, and she said everywhere she went, everybody knew her. Britney, Madonna, J-Lo, eat your heart out - we have our own Letterville celebrity.

Sounds like you are really going out of your way to show her a good time. I met her in Hattiesburg, and shy she is NOT. It is great that you have a daughter for her to spend some time with. At age 17 she is probably needing some time with piers at this point.
Don't eat the vegemite! Cherry ripes are great if "R.T.'s Raiders" didn't eat them all!

I'm so glad to hear Katie will get to see Stone Mountain while she's there. Being the sculpture fan I am, I can't tell you how many times I've stood in front of that mountain wondering just how in the world they managed to carve that relief. It's the largest stone sculpture in the world. And a sight to behold. That's where the man (John Borglum) that did Mount Rushmore got his start. I hope Katie is as impressed as I was the day I first stood there.
Enjoy!

Adrienne,
Someone seems to have turned Katie into a "Peep Freak".

Kathy,
Jessica (my daughter) tried the vegemite last night. One bite proved more than enough. Katie, on the other hand, is on a mission to try every American candy on the market. I predict success.

J.T.,
The carving is truly magnificent. In the summer they bounce a laser show on it nightly, replete with music and fireworks. From the top looking down, you wonder just how crazy you'd have to be to get in the mountain carving business.
By the way, I looked at your web site the other night - WOW
