I'm seriously considering an outside sales person, For those of you who have such a person, how do you compensate? Is it just salary, or are they on commission only.. maybe a draw on a weekly basis... and what percentage do you feel is right? And how does everyone feel about this issue? You're comments and concerns both positive and negative would be appreciated.
Thanks

Base salary on minium wage per week and commission on all sales after the fact.10-15%.

Thats what I would work on.

If the commission really is on the stronger side of his sales then redues the minium wage by percentage.

Hope this helps.

I hired an outside sales person one month ago. I pay her a base salary of 20,000.00 plus a 15% commission on sales. It is slow gettering her started. She sold a the local FastSigns so I'm still trying to get her to go after the right kind of sale. When her commision begins to flow we will decrease the salary and eliminate it at some point.

We need to better equip her with the correct sales tools. We have been working in a nice brochure but need to rework it because we had to many customer logos in it. The permission letters have gone out so we need to wait a little longer before we go to press.

I think she will be a good investment and look to grow through her efforts. I am committed to giving her the opportunity to suceed. The upside is enormous the downside is 20,000.00. I think it's a no brainer.
