We have a huge CD collection of Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Poison, Motley Crue, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Tom Petty, Damn Yankees (I love them!), Beatles, Phil Collins, Paul Simon and most of the 80s hard rockers. The amazing thing is that Dad really loves them all too! He seems to know the lyrics to just about everything we have. :^)

As much as I love everything listed above, hehehe, my hubby recently purchased the Time Life bluegrass cd's for me. They showed up the other day and there's 4 of them suckers. I've been tickled to death listenin to em.
Now I can order one of the Song Painters cds. Reckon I'll have to hunt down one of Joe's posts so I can click on the Sound Clips link he put there for our ordering ease.
I can't wait to add it to my collection. Plus, I really don't wanna be one of the nongs who hang off to the side at the next meet I attend, because I don't know the words when it's played!

Yes Cisco....that is a great CD. I also love the one you gave me with Gato Barbieri. I have since bought more of his. Sugar Blue is awesome too. Linda....I will have to get some Joe Satriani....bluegrass? And yes by all means get the SongPainter. I am digging the heck out of it.

Joe "Satch" = Guitar virtuosity, with a fast & furious style, some of the intricacy of fusion, & the soul of hard driving blues. Above all, very original IMHO
I have my 200 CD player on shuffle again. Just heard Shakedown Street by The Grateful Dead (Back when I first saw them in '76) Now The Police are playing, Elvis Costello earlier, & even heard some Slipknot today (very hardcore & needs to be censored when customers walk in)
Well, lo & behold, a live version of the title track Thick as a brick just came on. Just as good as it was in '72

Tunes are super important in our shop. We have the office radio synched with the shop radio to Classic Rock every day all day. It's not loud, but it's always on.
When I work late, or when driving to and from work, there is always a CD playing. Top ten bands that I listen to over and over are:
1. U2 (went to their concert this year in Minneapolis -totally awesome!) 2. Cars 3. Pink Floyd 4. Depeche Mode 5. AC/DC 6. Gary Numan 7. Police 8. Tears For Fears 9. Alan Parsons Project 10 Mike Meyer Mazeppa Sing-Along Songs

Today in no particular order, on the radio a blues show featuring Eddie "the Chief" Clearwater, a two hour tribute to Bob Marley, tapes and CD's of Bob Wills, Donna the Buffalo, Smashmouth, Lucinda Williams, Robin Trower, Eddie Cochran.

Cheryl, Thanks for the heads up on the Cate Bros. I looked 'em up on the net, and they play the perfect, good time, blitzing, "shop music". I'm going to the record store tomorrow (I guess record store sorta dates me) and pick up on these guys. Lately, my jukebox has been playing "Reptile", the best thing Clapton's ever done, "Dig", an awesome new CD by Boz Scaggs,the Boneshakers (Sweet Pea Atkinson, from Was,Not Was, on vocals), Maxi Priest, and of course, "Songpainter".
Tell you what - we'll never pigeonhole George Perkins into one musical genre, will we?

Hey Cheryl, Just read your post and realized you were listening to some guys I used to know fairly well. The Cate Bros. are from a town only 80 miles south of here, Springdale, AR. I have seen them at least 30 times at a local gigs, and heard they were doing pretty well. I've spent lots of time talking to them. They have been very popular over the years. We have had a few biggies get their start here at local nightspots. Kansas, Ace Morelan along with a lot of others that I like better, but didn't make the really big time. Most have settled in to Branson, just a 100 miles east with all the old Nashville bunch as leads, backups or band members just to keep their habits up. As far as shop music, my usuals are John Hooker, Van Morrison, Sade, and Crissie Hynde, of the Pretenders. Did you know you can download about anything you want FREE, at kazaa.com? Hey Cheryl, sounds like a fun day tomorrow (today) but easy on the "slipknot" It happened to shuffle itself on today so I mentioned it, but even if you like VERY hardcore rock, it's not my first choice to buy. Pantera, Slayer or Rage against the Machine will replace caffine & anger management therapy at the same time, But this is a very small segment of my musical interests.
I'm gussing you would probably really enjoy this Sheryl Crow & Friends Live from Central Park (incl. Eric C. Dixie Chicks, Chrissie Hynde, Keith Richards & other greats)
Also was reminded by Bronzeo's post that a band I saw every month living in Manhatten NYC was Blues Traveler. It's fun to have watched a band go from local favorite to National recognition! Check them out if you haven't.

Ryan, Don't let the tie fool ya! (just my best picture after the 20 year ponytail) Playing Drums for 30 years my tastes are varied.
When I left the Big Island in 1989 I had had enough Grateful Dead, Reggae, Phish, & various Hippie Sh*t to last a lifetime, so at 30 I hit my metal phase. (not to be confused w/ years of zepp, purple, sabbath etc.)
I saw Metallica 5 times, Slayer 3 along with shows like sepultura, prong, megadeth, Primus, Buthole surfers, STP, Helmet, Suicidal Tendancies, Pantera, G&R, VH, & on into the Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dogs, Red Hot Chili Peppers shows.
I still listen to my Janes, NIN, Bush, Korn, Methods of Mayhem, Sublime, Limp Bizkit, Green Day, & Morphine.
Of course I also like my Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Ottmar Liebert, Billie Holiday, John Lennon and various "nicer" music.

My musical tastes are all over the board since awakening in my senior year of high school in 1972 to the likes of Aqualung, and went from there to J Giles, Bachman Turner Overdrive, REO Speedwagon, and a fascination that exists till today with Pink Floyd. Only later could I appreciate the greatness of Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and BB King.
It's a great thing to see my now 17 year old son sampling all my favorites, the whole encyclopedia of rock and blues mixed in with the mandatory rap, metal and punk of today. Last night I was amused to hear him switching from Neil Young's My My, Hey Hey, to Notorious B.I.G. - his musical hreitage is much broader than mine was.
ps, it's very gratifying to have Songpainter mentioned in this thread. Wow.

Jack & Sonny.....the Cate brothers have been one of my favorites since I was a little hippy signpainter in the 70's. I absolutely love them. I am still looking for my favorite 'album' of theirs can't remember the name but it was an all white cover. Do you know that one Jack??? Ken..Gary Moore has been at the top of my list for years......I looked for his new CD yesterday...but couldn't find it. Isn't he something??! Joe....SongPainter is a great CD. You, Dave Ginley & Dave Draper all have very unique voices. It is a real treat to put on a CD and relate to the artists words.....and to be able to put voices to your faces!

all that is great music.. i like most anything,mostly country.i was raised on country and blue grass,but my youngest is a rapster.. rap makes my heart beat outta whack. he has speakers that boom !! i can only tolerate short rides with him. i like pink floydd.i used to have a tracker geo,convertible. the kids would wait till we pulled to a red ight and turn on the "wall"; full blast (where the chopper is landing and voices are calling), and they would look to see if people would look up in the sky...crazy kids. i also listen to the beatles, force of habit. 1964 era. gotta have music to get things moving.
