I made a one page poster and I need to send it to someone for them to print out and distribute. Rather than sending it as some type of bitmap, I wonder how those clean files are made that open in Acrobat Reader and retain the cleanliness of the original and still remain a relatively small file? Any other means of transporting this file over the rural phone lines would be appreciated.

I have Photoshop and Illustrator and Corel and lotsa tools that should give me the ability if I only knew how.

Rick,

If you have Corel 9 or 10, just go to "File/Publish to PDF".

The PDF window is pretty much self-explainitory (spl?).

Rick,

For making PDFs Adobe Acrobat is invaluable - it will let you make PDFs from any app.

I picked it up about 6 mo. ago at Best Buy for $249 and I never regretted it!

Rick, you should be able to publish PDF from Corel as Glenn describes. Corel sometimes messes up the job, especially on very complex files, so be sure to check the file with Acrobat Reader (free if you don't already have it) to be sure the PDF is correct before sending it on. Vic G

Thank you Mark, for doing the conversion for me. Does Corel 9 actually do the same thing as Acrobat Writer? What other programs will do that? I'm wondering if there is something I have that might work? Thanks everyone.

it is also easy in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe PhotoShop:

File menu > Save As > choose the format button and select "Adobe PDF"

(the default is Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, depending on which program you're using).

Sometimes, a .pdf containing images will still be a bit large for easy uploading.

Use Acrobat Distiller to reduce the file size.

How 'bout them Patriots?

Thanks all!
Scooter, I did it myself in Illustrator.
That's what I wanted most....to be able to do it myself.

Can those PDF's be resized?
If I send something small, could the person receiving it enlarge it?
What are the limitations with this file format?
I like the cross platform aspects of PDF and that most everyone has Acrobat and does not have programs that open graphic files.

Rick,

When you export a .PDF it will show up as whatever size it was in your original document. (E.g. if the document was 11"x17" in illustrator, corel, photoshop, that is what size it will be in Acrobat when exported). To resize, just change your page/document size and re-export.

PDF format is wonderful, far more secure to save any of your artwork that those private file format from dedicated sign software.

I commonly recommand to my customer to look for PDF files from larges company to obtain a vectorised version of their logo's. Go to website of a company, load some PDF files recently produced (technical sheet, product flyers,…). Open the result within Adobe Illustrator and, in many case, you will find some vectorised logos ! But never forget that, at the opposite, your customers or concurrents could edit your artwork if you send them a vector-based PDF without previously vectorise it. I know for example some clip-art collections from which PDF catalogs are available on the web. Those one are vectore-based. Hmm…
