After years of using Sign Foam, suddenly I'm getting bubbling of the paint after the sign goes up. I increased drying time of the primer, and succeeding latex coats, but it's doing it again.
Anyone experiencing this? thankyou

Jonathan, I had this problem a few months ago. Then, I started washing BOTH sides with water from my lawn faucet. 60 pounds of pressure thru a regular narrow nozzle. I was amazed at the dust that came out even after a good vacuuming !!
I really think that the problem is "air entrapment" which results from not getting a good contact bond with the primer to the HDU. Cut open a few bubbles to see where the problem is. I will wager it is between the HDU and the first primer coat.
At first, I thought it would take days for the HDU to dry after washing, but, it only takes a couple of hours in the sun. Try this method, hope it works for you !!

Anyone ever tried using "FirstStep" on an HDU sign?

I primed one of the samples in my showroom with it about 3 or 4 years ago and it looks great. But, I haven't tried one outdoors yet.

Anyone done this?

Jonathan,

Has there been any changes to your production routine or materials used, to the exception of increased drying as mentioned?

You may want to invest a few minutes and review some past post here regarding similar situations. May or may not help out.

I tried John's waterhose proceedure this morning on a couple of HDU signs and could see the dust washing off right before my eyes. I had already blown the signs off thoroughly with an airhose at about 125psi, but the air evidently only gets maybe half the dust.

Paint can't stick well with dust on it.

I'm sold.
