Well I decided that this year I was going to finally design my own Christmas card and send them out to my loyal cutomers family and friends. I always seem to WANT to do this but I never seem to put the time together to do it. have any of you done this before? It seems so natural that people who are in our trade should do this instead of just buying them off the shelf. I have two designs layed out and am GOING to start on em tomorrow. Mike, Several years ago I did a pen and ink of the tail fin of a 60's Cadillac,and sent them out as Christmas cards. Good idea....keep us posted......Will yours have FLAMES ????????? Shep'

I was thinking the same thing the last few days Mike.
We try to do it every year, although our schedule sometimes doesn't let it get done.
I have done serious stuff or sometimes a more cartoon theme. Always in a pen & ink style.
I used to tie it to a limited edition print and use exra paper on a sheet to do the card. Depending on the size of the edition I would sometimes end up with way more cards than I could ever use.
Nowadays it is way easier with a good printer sitting on my desk. We can do exactly what we need.
And the artwork is way easier to produce and customise to each recipient with a few keystrokes.
So get busy all you folks out there. It has never been easier.
And have fun with it!

Yes Mike you will find this more satisfying as there is a part of YOU included in your cards. The recipents also are impressed with the "personal touch" you create for them. I have been designing my own cards for the last 4 years(all sign related)and have found it also gives me GREAT PLEASURE.

I have been working on a design for the last few weeks in Corel Painter for a Christmas card. Not much time to decide on how to print them. I thought about a postcard format from one of the online printers. How well would a run of 50 or more work on a desktop printer? Seems costly.

A couple years ago I came up with a cute Christmas card design, and printed out some to give to my friends. I had to tell most of them that I did them because it wasn't that apparent even though I did print my logo and the date on the back.
Last year I designed gift tags, cut them with a zigzag edge, glued them to corrigated cardboard paper, and strung them with rafia. (straw) They doubled as ornaments. Those got more attention.
Been thinking about doing another card this year. It does end up being more expensive than buying cards. But more fun and satisfying.

Hi Mike, you will be surprised how much people appretiate a hand made card, especially one from such a great talent as you. Last year I sent out a photo of the 3' angel I carved and got many favorable replies.

If I can find a traffic-copter pic of a wreck in front of a mall, with all the decorations, that would show at least one of the Xmas spirits.

Kinda off of the subject, but....
I've never made a Christmas Card (GREAT IDEA)! HOWEVER....... We used to buy fluorescent acrylic sheets, put 'em in our trusty scroll saw and make little 3" Christmas ornimants to give away. Trees, wreaths, candles etc..... I also use an engraver to add little details (they always are dated)! These little rascals light up real nice when you put a bulb behind them too!!
