"Carving" will ALWAYS have a place on this wonderful earth !!! Whether it be wood, stone, HDU, plastic, ice or that upcoming turkey !!! In most cases, it is not the material used for the product, it is the skilled craftsmanship that goes into the final product. If you have that skill, it is to your advantage to learn as much as you can about new and improved materials on todays market such as HDU and wood composites.

Yes Joe,
I believe it is still important to learn how to carve in Wood.
Not ALL jobs are right for HDU. And having carved a little in both materials, If one were to learned to carve well in foam, they will be frustrated if ever faced with a Mahogany job.
My first job was in Mahogany and I'm glad it was. I learned so much on that first job.
If they learn to Carve in wood first, then foam will be a dream.
The basics are always a good place to start.

ARE YOU KIDDING!? Of course you should expose people to wood carving, in fact, it should be a required rite of passage. Fight the good fight Mr C.
