My Fireworks 4 can't open a Corel 9 file. I says it can't read it. It can open my old Corel 7 files, but not ones saved in 7 format in Corel 9.... It says it cannot open a compressed file. Are the files being saved in Corel 9 under an earlier format compressed??? How can I lite this firecracker up. I wanna party. Bronzeo

Jack,

A lot of programs are unable to open Corel 9 CDR files. Gerber Omega and Adobe Illustrator are two such programs. Try saving your Corel file down to a version 8 or 7 format and see what happens.

Glen, I did, but then fireworks said that it couldn't open a compressed file. I didn't know that they were compressed when saved in another format. Maybe Macromedia has a new fix for this problem, after a few such related probs. Thanx, Jack

I don't know if this will work...but you can try "exporting" your file as an Adobe Illustrator file and import it in Fireworks.

Jack,

When I get home tonight, I'll try it out and see what I get. Meanwhile, if you'd like, e-mail your CDR file to me a walldog@nc.rr.com and I'll see if I can make it go.

Jack...CorelDraw uses compression no matter what version you save as. when you go to save, click on the "advanced" button. A new window will open and you will see a place to uncheck either or both Bitmap compression or vector compression. Hope this works for you.

Thanks Guys, I will try the advanced box. Thanks Dave. Glen, I really don't have a particular file as none of the Corel 9's would go. If Daves idea doesn't get it, I will e-mail you a file if you don't already have 9 or 10. Jack

OK....I found the solution.

If you are using Corel 9 or 10, you must save the file down to version 8. While you are in the "SAVE" window, click on the "ADVANCED" button.

From there, you can turn off the compression option.

Click OK, then save your file in version 8. Then go to Fireworks and open the CDR file as you normally would.

I hope this helps.
