I love it when guys like this walk into my shop early on a monday morning.
a few years back i lettered this house painter's van.(nice job) after getting paid he ask me do i have any scrap magnetic sheeting he could have. i went back to my old file cabinet were i stick scraps and cutoffs of magnetic sheeting and pull off two pieces of sheeting and give it to him.
years later he buys a new van and ask me to come up with a nice layout. i crank out a nice layout and give him a price and a few weeks later i see the guy's van and he has hand lettered it(after all he is a house painter so naturally he thinks he can do it himself and save some money.(looks like crap!)
anyway he stops in a little later and ask me if i have any scrap magnetic sheeting he can have. i say i don't have any.
he walks back in this morning and ask me again if i have any magnetic scraps, and i tell him no. "Why don't you have any scraps?" he ask.
I just don't. he get's kinda beligerent and reminds me that he let me letter his van years ago.
I didn't mention the fact that his van he lettered himself looks like someone lettered it with a bucket of sh*t and a pine top!
no more free magnetic sheeting! he stomps out of the shop all ****ed off.
how would you have handled this guy?

I don't know.........maybe I would have stuck a small piece of the mag. material to his (obvious cast iron head ) and sent him packing.... maybe give him a quarter to buy himself a "CLUE"...since he don't seem to have one.. Shep'

Mark......Ya need to open up man, tell him how you really feel, get in touch with your inner child, explain the angst of the modern day sign man. Ya shoulda cut him a couple 2" squares and said these should do fine as you told him to shove em up his bean blower!
hehehehe!

He would have been luck to get out of my shop without a boot in his a**.
Not really, as I am a rather peaceful fellow...
Don't let it get to you, buddy. The world's full of putzes like him. Let him go to another shop and bug them for the rest of his pityful life.

Yeah I know a guy who is a pain like that too. He is so cheap. He now goes to fastsigns because they will do his ugly yellow and brown corex signs for 10.00 each. Then he has the balls to call and ask me for some free chrome silver vinyl! I get a good laugh outta him tho.

Another reason I don't miss having a shop
What would I have done? Gone and rounded up a few magnetic scraps, handed them to him and commented " I see you got your van done, who did the lettering, it looks like it was done using **** and a pinetop"

remind me not to ask joey for any magnetic scraps!

adrienne sent me this in the mail, from now on when a customer like this guy comes in i will reach under the counter and hand this to him and say "congratulations!"
haahahahahahahahha, let me catch my breath... hahahahahahahahahahahahahha!

I believe Ida told the guy "I buy material to make signs, and if you're gonna make signs too, then you can buy it too." Of course this won't be of any use to him, because you can't change minds that don't exist. But it would be the end of it.
