Out of curiosity only, why do you want to get back into the Mac World?
 

Instead of emulating Windows and slowing down the Mac why not run MacImprint out of Adobe Illustrator?
I'vs been running it on my G3 and now G4 for two years and find it exceptional.

I've read about MacImprint for running the edge, but I was actually happy with the new 1000 MHZ PC & 512 megs RAM to run the Edge.

It is my other 233 MHZ puter with 128 RAM that I want to upgrade. I use that machine to do a lot of graphics work in Illustrator & Photoshop as well as to cut vinyl from CasMate-Pro. CasMate is an out of date program, but I am very proficient in it & even when I got a Inspire, I've been too lazy to learn it since I am actually really happy with CasMate. It just needs to be run off Windows.

Bob, I don't have a solid answer except that versatility of having both platforms could be handy if I'm going to buy another machine anyway. Mac Opener has really helped deal with clients Mac formatted media, so that may be a non-issue. The other reason probably warrents it's own topic, but I have heard that work on large image files in Photoshop among others are handled better (faster) on a Mac. Is this a unfounded rumor. or a fact?
 

It certainly blew my laptop away. I don't know what the laptop specs were, since it is tough to compare figures between the two platforms, but as I said I was impressed.
 

Since ScanVec/Amiable has recently dropped support for Casmate (and Inspire, I hear, is history too,) I encourage you to take advantage of their upgrade specials to Flexi.

FlexiPro 6.5 (Now 6.6) will surprise you with its flexibility and speed for getting things done. It also has Adobe's Postscript 3 RIP so it is a great program for color output.

I can't help you with your Mac /Windows dilemna, never having owned a Mac, but my curiosity may be the cause of me buying a Mac someday. I hear they are wonderful graphic machines.

I am fooling around with using Flexi to output to the Edge. When I can take more time, I will see what it can do. I don't really care for Omega.

I don't do any designing in Omega, but importing Illustrator files saved down to version 6 has worked perfectly every time, & Photoshop files have also come in just fine, so I just do a minimum of resizing files, or nesting small jobs to fill material. Also selecting by color & re-assigning colors flows pretty smooth for me, so just to set up plot files Omega is acceptable.

I guess if I could skip it and run jobs straight out of Flexi, that would interest me too.

Thanks for your comments too Dave, I think I will put that on it's own topic. I'm sure there are many with better explanation of the "use Mac for Graphics" claims.
 

I'll answer this in this post,

I believe that 2 platforms is a great idea if you are dealing with print houses and AD agencies, Having worked on older MAC's I always fealt that MAC was a much better computer, Espesially for graphics. The only problem I ever had was the lack of support from software companies for the MAC platform.
