Awesome ideas, great project.

I'd love to have that truck for a shop truck, minus the teeth though!

Yo, Vic! You might be the first one arrested!

OK. I give up. Its a 54 Ford panel with a dent in the door and the door handles sagging? Where's the grille? The monster on top looks great for the pic and the color contrast is really there, but BODY WORK, MAN! Is this really signart with the body craftsmanship so absolutely UNDAZZLING! Gimme a break. It's the gag prize thinking that motivated your award? I am deeply let down.

Posted by Preston McCall (Member # 351) on :

No, NO...it's a Chevy! Split windshield. '46-54. No grille to tell....and no side vent? The teeth genuinely, are awesome and the frontal fins??? GM beware! I smell revisit to 60 Buick! How exactly does it hold down the hood during ambulance runs? Still, saggy door handles? Come on! And the door dent? I bet some poor old lady had a start when she passed the cloud of smoke behind it, going to the roller coaster! Somebody had too much leftover reds anb blues in a body shop and did an acrylic enamel (or synthol?) spanker.

...and its got military issue Jeep tires on the rear? How many cans of fix-a-flat? Whatever happened to taste here?

Posted by Preston McCall (Member # 351) on :

OK. My best guess is '49, after revisiting it three times. It is a prop and does not drive. OK. Still, some Doberman is terrified to even mark the tires. Take two aspirin and call the hook! It is a mook, 85%. Will be back at Joe's Junkyard by year's end. Let's see some real signs!

Preston.....if you're gonna answer your own posts it's generally best to do it only once or else people begin to think the medication needs to be changed. Don't take it so seriously,if you ask nicely maybe they'll call you b4 they build the next one.

I'm around this kind of stuff every halloween and thats pretty damn nice work plus it just flat out looks cool as hell.

Mark are you still Mark Fair Signs or markfair.com? (name change?)

hey gavin,
i am still mark fair signs but i am still markfair.com also.
one and the same.

preston, if you would like to see some real signs then send me one.
if not i will return your subscription to sign of the month. LOL

i will not sit here and defend my choices for SOTM,

i don't care if it is a turd that has been gilded and a mother of pearl housefly stuck in the middle, if it strikes my fancy, then it wins.

Hey I like it
Mark, I think I see hear the makings of a new song "It was only a turd in a gilded cage"

OT question for the Nascar fans. What current driver in Winston Cup got his first feature win in a race car at Dorney Park?

In defense (as if he needs it) of Mark......LIGHTEN UP
It is HIS choice.......DUHHHHHH..

IMHO it is an appropriate choice....(Halloween ya know).

SOTM has always been about being creative and thinking out of the box so to speak.

who knows, if i have the time today, i just might gild a turd and send it to preston. hahahahahahahaha just kidding preston....lighten up bubba.

this will be a collabrative effort, when you receive it preston, it is up to you to inset the mother of pearl housefly into the piece.

LOL LOL

(does anyone out there have any technical drawings out there?

Thanks for the (mostly) kind words. This was a project with almost no budget and even less time. It's not intended to be a show car, but a prop for a 9 day Halloween event. We felt the dents and bumps in the truck were appropriate....you don't catch a monster like that without putting up a fight!!

I applaud Mark for picking SOTM winners that are not thought of as typical signs ( I've seen others in the past). Thinking 'outside the box' of what a sign can be is the first step of challenging your imagination.

I terribly regret that I have offended anyone, Especially these great SOTM efforts. I really am impressed at Mark's site and his excellent choices about what constitues a good sign. Really! He has a beautiful site and the awards have been a real source of inspiration for me.

I ranted and rambled on and on about the 'beast', but have taken a second look and see it really is a stunning eyecatcher and a good one at that. It must have worked, because I reacted.

Now as far as my criticism of the 'object as art', Yes. I think it is very good and it was obviously alot of work. Bravo.
