Sometimes I design in CorelDRAW9 and then convert to curves, save an an AI file and import into VMP sign program. It imports the file alright but there are a bunch of vertical lines thoughout the design. You can't see them unless you veiw in wireframe. Sometimes I can weld everything back together and sometimes it won't work or will create it's own additions to the design. Anybody experiancing this problem? Any fixes? Thanks.

I have same problem in ga6 so I usually eps them out of corel after converting everything to curves/objects ... or once in ga ungroup everything and contour

Robert..I often run into the "vertical line" situation when importing AI files into Corel. I have found, like Mark, that eps seems to be a better file format to prevent that situation.

Robert,
In VMP...click the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.Choose weld/outline..then select graphic and click on auto weld. This has always worked for me.It takes quite a bit of time if graphic is complex.

What is happening is... the AI format thinks it is going to print, so it divides large pieces into smaller ones as it converts. You see this as lines in the wire frame view.

What you do about it is...In Corel, before you export, convert everything to curves and break apart - Control Q , Control K.

I have the opposite problem. Exporting to eps out of corel seems to turn the art into a series of small line segments, but ai maintains the curves. Have to watch out for this when routing because the small line segments are very visible on a routed piece of material.

Yep Victor wins this round of the Import/Export wars..

You need to Ungroup and break apart your shapes in CorelDRAW before exporting to AI format. That'll solve the problem, guaranteed.

I flip between Corel and Illustrator all the time and this works every time I switch between the two.

I've run into this problem a few times too, even after the text has been converted to curves.
I dont have a copy of corel on this machine so I can't tell you exactly whcih tick box it is but in the export dialgue there is an option to export as text or curves.
Choosing the curves option solved the problem in my case.
You could also experiment with the other options if you're still having trouble. In my experience ai is less hassle than eps, I have no idea wherein the difference lies but it's worked for me.
HTH,
David
