I have some old CorelDraw files dating back to version 2 and Corel 7 won't open them (not supported) I thought this was a little poor.
Can any of you clever Corel folk tell me how to open them?
thanks in advance

I think you're gonna need someone who has Corel 5 or older. I wish I could help.

Thanks Glenn and thanks Dave, I have quite a few of them and non are really essential, I just wondered why they couldn't be opened. With signLab 5 I can still open .thz files the original format of 15 years ago.

Didn't Corel 2 fit on like one floppy disk? Maybe you should install it and let it run beside the newer version. I'm sure you could export your old files to some format that's more universal, then delete the old version.

If I recall correctly there was a dos conversion program included in ver 4 I think to convert the older fromat files so they would open in later versions but I can't find the exact details here. maybe someone else remembers this,...

I'll ask around today/tonight!

***

OK - Hubby says you could do a search and get version 4 and they prolly won't charge anything as it is sooo old.

My guru isn't home, and Hubby's Uncle Bill who worked for IBM for 20 years, (his middle name is DOS) is going to look through his files. I'll get a prompt call back from Uncle Bill...and I left a phone message with my guru.

I'll edit as I find out stuff.

***

Hay! Uncle Bill just called!

Uncle Bill says he never cared for ver4 as it was screwed up bad and they didn't even collect books on it...that ver5 was ok.

Timi, Bill said that what yer looking for is the setver command, this gig exsists/runs automatically on windows 95. 98 and ME, but you have to activate it.

Go to start\programs\ms dos prompt

Go to config.sys (for dos) and at the bottom of the device drivers list...type...

...device=c:\windows\setver.exe...(without the triple dots you see here)

or you can type...dir setver...below the c:\windows line... and hit enter, and it will bring up a box...that says it's 18,939 bytes and the install date and time...to verify that your OS (operating system) has it.

Good luck!
Linda

Linda!
What a trooper for tracking all that down.
I nominate YOU for the new, resident Corel guru.

No Linda setver is a dos command. The file I was thinking of wasn't that well documented but it was a dos exe or com file that would change the version of certain type files for coreldraw. It came with corel not dos,...

oops

thought you meant ver 4 of DOS.

Joe,

I must decline, as you have seen, I only seem to be able to run in circles...not a qualifying attribute...hehehe!

(Only 3 quick phone calls and about 5 miutes of typing...no big whoop.)
