After talking to the guy that sold me my computer yesterday he informed my of updates that happen to my Motherboard, all of the time. Usually about every three or four months.
This was sort of a surprise to me but after downloading the updates one at a time I uncovered a fix to my system crashes in one of the updates. It is a little tricky to update the bios but for most of us it should be quite simple and probably save us some angry moments.

Kevin, Bios updates were described to me by a seasoned technician as "last ditch attempt" one younger tech that worked on my computer wanted to jump at bios download and update. A simple battery change helped the situation. I you continue to have problems the Bios update may be a economical option. In my case, I'll wait to upgrade my computer or buy new.

Yep, BIOS updates ARE last ditch efforts and are not to be taken lightly.
If you happen to get a corrupted file - say if the download got messed up or the floppy disk goes goofy - that's the end of it, your computer will NOT work and the only way to fix it is to replace the BIOS chip on the motherboard.
Sometimes the BIOS chip is plugged into a socket and can be replaced by the end user, other times the chip is soldered right to the motherboard and will require taking it to a tech.
Either way, I wouldn't mess with BIOS updates "just for the hell of it". If it aint broke, dont fix it.
