Just interested how many have problems with sales reps extending the truth on their products eg my 3m rep told me their flourescent reflective orange would last at least five years without fading 12mths latter just about white and now has changed his advice and says that they don't guarantee their product if it is mounted at any angle less than 90 degrees I would like to wring his neck this product is over $100.00 a square metre

Yikes! (like that word?)

So, he admits having said it would last five years - he just assumed you would somehow know (by devine insight perhaps) about the 90 degree rule. Maybe a good smack 90 degrees upside his head would help that make sense.

I'm amazed at how many reps don't know their product. It seems half the ones I meet are just B.S.'ng their way through.

I know the company that you're talking about Ian. I had problems with backup service also on 3M "E" film and got the same deal. Never mind, it is a buyer's market out there.

Hi Heads,

I have had a few "reps" in my shop also recently that had not been working for their companies very long. They had been in sales positions for other companies.

I have been approached by one company to become a product spokesman / salesman and they thought they were doing me a favor by offering $40,000 per year and all the travel I wanted....yeah right, oh, and I had to move to Florida.

(Frankly folks, a hillbilly truck driver can get $45,000 per year and all the travel he wants along with never seeing his family, and divorce court, and child support payments)

I think the big companies got rid of the good knowledgeable high paid sales reps during the downswing in the stock markets and replaced them with low paid idiots.

Hay Ian!

Tell em ya want it all in writing! A printed brochure with all the facts would be nice, something you can take to court if need be. At that point, they have to make a decision, to own up or shut up. If they aren't willing to stand behind their product, they shouldn't be pawning it in the first place. Don't be afraid to tell them you feel this way.

A big overprotective dog can help and if nothing else, the old mimeographed sign we use to pass around works, over the front counter...

"We Shoot Every 3rd Salesman...the Second One Just Left!"

Exactly why I don't have "sales reps", now how to control the ones at the suppliers location hmmmmm.
