ALrighty now. I am doing a poll. Just wondering what cutting force most signmakers use on their plotters. Also, how often do you change your cutting blade? All answers appreciated and look forward to your replys.

For 2mil vinyl my control program is set for 100-130 grams but when I use a resharpened bit from "Bits n Bits" I have to override the settings to 50 grams minimum because they're so sharp. I gradually increase the force from time to time as the blade wears.

Here at my day job it's usually around 120 or 130 depending on the mood of the vinyl. Most of the time 120 is good. I've had to change the blade one or two times a year for the last 3 or 4 years. Last week I cut some cad-cut t-shirt material and had it up to 220 and extended the blade out a bit.
At home I think it's set at 80 or 90 (can't check it right now, still down from the lightening strike) and have ran that machine for 2 years without changing the blade and still cuts fine.

I run a Mimaki plotter at 60 grams on 2 mil vinyl. I have done this for 6 years now, and had to install my second blade after cutting reflective material the first time. I now use the dull blade for reflective, and the sharp one for HP. These two blades have lasted for 6 years, and are not showing any signs of wear.
BTW... for reflective I run 180 grams pressure, and a LOT slower speed.

My summa d-60 is at 140 grams for cast...145 grams for cal. I just recently changed the blade after 1 years use!!! I thought that was a pretty good deal for slingin as much vinyl as I do!
Speaking of I need to order blades ... whos the best??? .... probably wont need one for another year though.

Interesting topic.
I use 120 grams for HP and Cal. 30 grams for pen. 180 for cad-cut materials.
