Ordered it this morning... aint she a beaut?

It's a Dell Inspiron 8000 Laptop but mine wont have the purple snap-on trim piece, fortunately.

Here's the specs:

P3-700MHz
256MB RAM
10 Gig hard drive (I have lots of external storage already so I dont need a big drive in the machine)
15" SuperXGA-Plus Display (sharper, higher res. and brighter than most laptop screens)
32MB NVIDIA GeForce2 mobile video accelerator (wicked-fast display engine!!!)
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive (schweeeeeet!!)
Internal Network Card/56K Modem Combo
Internal FireWire Port (will plug right into my external FireWire mass storage drive.. might have to upgrade to a FireWire Scanner now.. hehehe)

Can you say "True Multimedia Desktop System Replacement"??
I can't wait to get it!

I WAS gonna buy an Epson 3000 printer and other screenprinting supplies/equipment but decided to put the money into a laptop instead.
I'm heading to St Louis this winter again (the return of Mike Pipes - in a cubicle.. hahaha) and figured a laptop will make traveling easier instead of lugging my desktop system with me like I did last year!

By the way, the laptop was $1600.. not too bad as far as laptops go... but they got me for another $150 between a carrying case and an extra battery which I will undoubtedly need anyway.

I really wish they had an Automotive Cig. adapter for this model... would be nice for some DVD entertainment during my 24 hour drive to St Louis. Oh well, I have nowhere in my truck to mount a 15" screen anyway.. for now, at least. When I build a new dashboard I think a port replicator embedded into the top of it will be in order.

Way to go Mike!

Heath loves his laptop from Dell and the extra battery is WAY worth it. We have a cassette adapter, like the ones that make your cassette player play from your portable CD player, that we plug into his laptop and listen to endless MP3's (when he actually travels WITH me).

It's great to create instant play lists when you're on the road to fit your mood or the road conditions. (AC/DC Back in Black to keep you awake during rush hour traffic or Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits... if you need to uh mellow out , Def Leppard Pyromania to bring back the hot summer memories while driving in the drizzle and downpours, etc...)

It's also great to pack the little tiny thing vs. half your office when you're heading out of town and STILL need to "work".

Congrats Mike I'm happy for you!

The singing out loud on the road side of the Moon

(you get a lot of funny looks when you do that in rush hour traffic... but at least they aren't shooting ya! ...they are laughing.)

I think I will copy and paste those spec's into my letter to Santa this year.

My luck I will get a lump of coal with "DUH" written on it

Congrats Mike, and we will definately have to get together this year when you are so close.

We've been dragging our Dell laptop all over North America the last 3 years Mike. It wasn't cheap, but it has proved to be a very valuable investment. Dell's service is second to none. I know you will enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours.

Stef, I've got the audio stuff taken care of already with the truck's audio system and compilation CD's.. =) Have those ready to go already because it's the same collection I take to car audio competitions and car shows to compete and demonstrate with.

Terry, nah I dont earn too much money.. I save alot. =) Actually it hurt buying the laptop cause I *REALLY* wanted the screenprinting rig but I just couldnt bare to load up everything and drag it with me again.. that was a pain last year, and I actually was gonna buy this very laptop last year but decided to pay off my truck loan a couple years in advance and wipe out some other bills. Now, one year later, the SAME laptop, same specs, model, everything, is $2,000 cheaper.

Troy, yes we gotta make it happen this year. I'll be in STL from about Nov. 5th until whenever I get my snoot full and decide it's time to come back to AZ. I think it's gonna be at least 2 months.. maybe another 4 month trip like last year.

Steve, I have no doubt I'm gonna love the new machine. I sit here and look at my 17" NEC tube and think "Man, that laptop has the same viewable area as this monitor!".. I plan on using it as my main machine, I just might have to plug this montor and keyboard into it to make it comfortable for 18 hours of use every day.

Now I'm jealous.

I love Dell, their support is great. I need to get a new laptop as the old one I had finally bit the dust. Got other things requiring $ right now, but I can't wait til I can get my new laptop.
