Never run into this before but, my helper mixed water with some oilbased paint this morning and topcoated some raised lettering on a sandblasted sign. I haven't seen it yet, but what to do???(laughing to keep from crying) Having a bad day.

Wash it off with thinner and repaint! Otherwise, let it dry and sand it off!
Even if it looks OK, it will not be a good job...at best it will be porous, or pemanently soft!

Next take an old mahl stick and whap him on the head, saying : "next time, pay attention!"

Si, Except for an occasional MDO panel coated out with One-Shot, we are practically an all waterbased shop. I have chronic allergies and sinus congestion and as soon as I walked into the shop I was greeted by the overpowering scent of mineral spirits.
She said she couldn't tell by the smell.

Anyway, I'll have to wait on the Mahlstick cuz Winter's coming soon and I have to sleep with my "helper", who happens to be my better half.

Katie, my apprentice and I are back to laughing once again.
My Sherwin Williams man says we can just sand off the gloss and coat with DTM. WHEW!

Let me know how the DTM (Direct To Metal) paint works ...I use it a lot, but only on metal and would be curious how well it works on wood.

I have used the "water borne" but did not like the product. I now use only their
solvent based and find it to be one of the best paints I have ever used.

It sprays well, brushes well and rolls really well...coverage is excellent and shelf life is extremely good.

We have switched to using DTM on all of our redwood and HDU signs some time ago. It's exceptionally smooth for a waterbased paint and I have even used it on MDO for a vinyl receptive topcoat. I thin it with one pint water per gallon and spray it in my HVLP gun. it sprays on smooth as glass and cures to a tough, resilient finish.

We use Sherwin Williams solid-color stains for sandblasted backgrounds and it sprays on very nice as well. You can even use the stain as a primer.

I hope to buy an airless sprayer a soon as possible. Hopefully then I will be able to spray the DTM without thinning at all.
