What kind of paint do you use on raw galvinized ? we are having peeling problems with some past projects painted on galvinized. We used xim 400 and also some ppg epoxy primer Thanks in Advance

Nothing is gonna hold on to the galvanized by itself...you have to use a metal treatment,PPG sell one called Galvaprep,other paint companies have similiar products,and in past some have used vinegar and water...that doesnt work 9 times outta 10. Once its treated you can keep using the epoxy and whatever you were topcoating with.

The first thing you may want to do to get more response to your questions is fill out your profile, name, etc. Everyone like's to see who you are. Anyway, on to your question I would try DuPonts VariPrime, or a similar self etching primer. These primers bite into the surface of the metal, then you can put your epoxy primers on top of this. I have had great luck with XIM and no problems with pealing. If the surface is prepared correctly you should not have any problems.....if you are having problems with different products then it is consistant and you are not preparing correctly. Making sure the surface is totally free of any dirt and oil is recommended. I use PPG DX520 Galva prep, hand dry and prime as soon as possible. Good luck.... The results work for me and I see all climates here in Iowa....

Something I was told about galvanized finishing by an old-timer ornamental iron fabricator - what sticks best and will not peel is latex paint. He'd been using it for 40 years on his galvanized railings and castings right over the galv without any primer. I suppose the same would be true for flat goods. With todays advanced acrylic latex paints, it might be worth considering.
I've used galvinized before with good results. Ace has a good galvinized metal primer that I use, and then as stated above, I topcoat with acrylic latex enamel. Did a 3' by 16' awhile back that is holding up very well. It was an old light up sign that the faces had busted and fell out of. I replaced them with the galvinized metal sheets and attached them with metal screws. Worked great.
