"crank", Joey Madden has suffered two losses. A power surge has blown his computer and scanner and there are few $$s to replace anything, so he's gone for the forseeable future. BUT.....the worst part is that last night he was sitting on his porch with his beloved little Lhasa Apso, he went inside to answer the phone, came back and his little dog was gone. This morning a neighbor let him know that his little dog was on the roadside, dead.

I can tell you that his little dog was his closest companion, going literally everywhere with Joey. Bum deal........bad news.

I can't help him with the dog issue but I do have a used pIII 450 computer in my shop that is sitting idle.

All it needs is a new video card and a modem

Which I can get really inexpensive.

But it has a new case and power supply, a brand new Western Dig 10.2 gig hard drive, new 128 meg memory, ( i also have another 128 meg if he needs it) a sound blaster sound card.

I have no NEED for this machine, Have joey call me and we will discuss the details, I don't need a lot for this machine, and I might even consider a killer cart.

There wasn't any mention of a monitor, so I'm not sure if there is one or not. If there isn't let me know, I got a spare (not the greatest resolution, it's from my old system) but I can stuff it in a box and ship out.

P.S. Did he check with his homeowners? They may do something about the power surge or tell him to gripe at the electric company.

Pierre,
I have 2 video cards that need a home. One is a Diamond Speedstar A-50 with either 8 or 16 Mb, I forget which. The other is an NVidia Ge force2 with 64 Mb built in RAM. That one had incompatibility problems on my 'puter, so I reinstalled my Viper V-770.
The Speedstar might be the way to go if the 'puter is an older one. Either way, I would contribute whichever one you think would work.

Actually Bill,

I could use a PCI card or an AGP card for this system. An AGP card would be prefered if you have one.

Now can we come up with a good surge prtector with phone line protection as well??

You know If I remember correctly this motherboard and processor combo had an A-50 in it from Diamond. So I know that one would work perfectly.

I'm afraid the Nvidia card might be more for gaming and might be trickier than a good ole stand by.

Do you have the drivers as well?

I'm at a total loss as far as computer stuff, but maybe I can help alittle with his dog...

This is something that we have at work that we hand out to the people that need it. Maybe you can print it off and give it to him.

RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Joey called me the night of the dog "running off" I feel for him, I told him that night "your little dog will come home in a while".

Well I know joey,(very well) I also know how this little guy fit into Joeys' life, I know how he hurts at the moment, (sorry man) and most people have kids, Joey had his "boys".

I'm in there for a donation, mainly cause I feel the oppertunity to return one of the MANY favors Joey has done for me !!

I don't know how many have met him, and then I would have to say "don't know how many appreciate him" hes a lot different then most, no doubt.

But, if you ever meet or talk to Joey , you will come away with a feeling of "refreshment' he "tells it like it is" not to cause problems, but because he has a need to be REAL, some folks have a hard time with this.

But let anyone call on him for help, you will find that he will do anything he can(cause he has a large heart) and you will have a "FRIEND" for life !!

Ok, thats enough, I gotta go talk to "BLUES"

Count me in for a few $$$. We should be able to help get the computer problem handled. The lost of his dog isn't going to be easy. My dog was hit too, (black lab-chesepeak mix). Yes, my mistake led him to his death, but that just adds guilt to the feeling of loss . I'm sure Joey hurts enough.

Maybe when Joey is ready, he might consider adopting a dog from the local pound or pet refuse. He might be able to help a dog that is down on his luck too, by taking him/her home.

Let me know about the computer help, I will kick in some $$$ to help.

This coming from the guy with the Mexican fiasco. Did anybody jump your case about taking illegal weapons to Mexico, did anybody comment on how all that was your fault. NO!!! Everybody was sympathetic, and my damn lip is still hurting.

Hello everyone,

I am lettering a van today and am taking a break, I was just going over this computer for Joey and I realized I still need a floppy drive and a CD.

I have a 5x CD but I'm not sure if is working good

I will be going to get a new surge suppressor that WILL take lightening strikes after I finish this truck.

So all you people that may have parts laying around, check for a Cd-rom and a floppy. If these are not readilly available we will have to get them, let me know as soon as you can.

Thank you Gavin.

Dana, your post brought tears to my eyes.

I haven't met Joey, but I've chatted with him a bit here on letterville chat. He's always been real straight forward and myself being the same way, I really like that.

I have a dog I got at Christmas time and he has become such a big part of my life. A month after I got him, I took him to the vet to get fixed. I dropped him off and came home. The house didn't feel the same without him and I knew he'd be home that evening. I've lost pets before and I know what Joey's feeling. I get extremely attached to animals instantly and if I were in Joey's spot right now and someone told me it was my fault....well, I don't think we want to go there. How many of us have dogs who wouldn't chase a pretty butterfly?

Anyway, Joey when you get back on here, hopefully you'll read this thread. My words of advice to you are that I agree with the idea of you checking the local animal shelter/humane society. (That's where I got my Rocky.) Just be careful, if you're anything like me, you'll want to take them all home. If you want to tell stories about your 'baby', email or call me. I'll listen and cry with or for ya.

I'm sorry to get off an a tangent here Pierre, I just needed to get this out.

Now, let me know about the monitor or any other misc. stuff needed. I'll see what I can do. Don't know what I can do $ wise, but if I have it or can get my hands on it, it's yours. Just tell me where to ship it.

To the fact that I have little to no compasion for Joe's mistakes.....and I will pick NO bones to that term Mistake....

Here in California we had a Police Officer who went to a meeting at the station and the Dum phuck left his dog in the car with the windows up........Opppppppsssssssss He made a mistake,, the Dog died,,,,,,

YOU and Only you are responcible IF you take an animal and make it your responcibilty.... by feeding and caring for it....

I have very well train dogs, and being that they are sucurity dogs I am constent awere of them and any possible problem BEFORE it takes place..... WE ALL make mistakes...
MY reference to what the vet said was to ME after I had made a mistake,,,,,

I think it is just so swell that people respond as you have to this post,,,, It shows the humanity in you all......
That you feel SO bad for Mr. Madden..
Myself I feel for the dog,,,,, AS I would for a child who was NOT restraind, or looked after properly... HOW would you good spelling humans feel about that ????,,,,, I just went inside for a minute and the child fell in the hog slop and drown......
Huummmmmmmmmm.... O'that is different.....because aummmmmmmmm, well just because...

and where I can see that a machine can go pop from a lighting strike Mr. Madden had the chance to shut the machine off,, AS I do during E storms.... EVEN with my surge on.... but there is the possibillty that the surge was not plug in,,,, OR was not turn on,,,, OR was not of the right quality...... OR ....................

I would think Mr Madden would have the moxey to face these FACTS..and I believe Joe will tell you no thanks to the good intentions of a set few... I know I would... with grace..

But then we all know that where I might be cute"" and one of the posters on this BB as on many others,,, I shall not be raped of my opinons or statements by fellow posters....

Now go put the baby down, and take a minute to respond to me..... and Blame me, or Fate or just Down on your luck if the baby chews on an electric cord while you were making a pointless point to me.....Twain,TBuk

Well, it appears that some of us are perfect and some of us aren't. Sometimes people f**k up. As an EMT, I see **** happen to people that shouldn't happen to any living thing but it does and that's the way it is.
This is a wonderful board with caring people. Pierre, my offer for cash still stands. Just let me know.

Dear Ted, you know I have read a number of your posts in the past, I have even found some humor in some of them.

This time I am going to take a stand(which is not a good thing for a "merchant" to do on such a website as this).
Ted , why don't you try to get (one of the two)the chemicals out of your brain, or your "head out of your ass" !!

Ted, it apears to me that you get on your keyboard, make some off the wall coment, then when someone takes afence to it , you get back on and (try as you will) attempting to "justify" your "careless remarks"(typical of any human under some "chemical influence")

I would suggest to you Ted, "try to NOT get on a message board when you may be under too much influence". The only reason I would make mention of "influence" is the fact that in soooo many of your posts you seem to "brag" about just that !!

Thats all I got for ya !!

Ted my friend. You've been up on that mountain too long. It's time to forgive and try to forget all the bitterness and loneliness that is eating away at your soul.

Barb and I have been to your mountain and enjoyed the time we spent with you. Your bark is far worse than your bite. Talk about well trained dogs! I will never forget the sight of you in your undies applying a full nelson and leg lock to that monster dog of yours while we ran for the bathroom.

Please do whatever it takes to get to Pat's meet next month. I'd drop by and drive you myself, but I know you would rather face a band of raving mad Bandinos then my driving.

Ok back to the real reason this thread started.

I picked up a really good surge protector tonight. we got the cd coming the floppy and the video card, we will be good to go next week.

I'll just say this in closing, I got a call from Joey this afternoon,

Not to blow his cover but the person I talked to was very genuine and real.

Hey TBUK, if thats your opinion "straight" then I will apologise for mentioning "chemicals" but then I would have to comment on your ch$#&*& sh$# attitude my friend !!

If that offends Mark, well I can only say "it started here it needs to end here" !!

Ted, to "coin" your own phrase
"I feel I have the right to post my opinion
here"

Well so then do I Ted !

Mark, I don't think I have a poor record here(regarding "jumping on someone") but From time to time we all(you included) have felt strongly enough about something to make a "public comment" !

I don't feel like "the judge or jury" here,
and I don't play "site police" , thats not my style.

But when someone posts a "negative" or some type of asualt on someone , then I beleive someone else has the right to "set it straight".

Ted posted his opinion publically and, I
mine !

....Bummer Joey. I know the feeling. I just had to put down "One Shot" the shop cat. Man!!!...that was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. We started out in the sign business together 15 years ago....that is a lot of history. It broke my heart...but it was the best thing for him...he was getting pretty tired.

I thought I was pretty tough...but let me tell you...an animal that you love can bring even the toughest of us to tears....I know...I have been in tears for three days.

So...Keep on keepin on Bro...it gets better each day...who knows...maybe the Universe will provide you with another one that will fill that empty spot in your heart.
