How would you price this: A high-class graphic design company asked me to make 2 30" high 4" thick SignFoam "c"'s (similair to Helvetica Black Italic); cut using a pattern from their computer file and cover the faces and sides with vinyl. These are to be used in a presentation to their customer, showing 2 color options for a proposed channel letter job. I don't have a router or one available to me, so will be using my jigsaw to cut 2" SignFoam and glueing/screwing pieces together to make 4" thick letters. Oh, and they need them in 46 hours for a presentation already scheduled!

Since this is only for a presentation why not just use Gatorfoam? It would have a smooth face, the edges could be primed and sanded as smooth as Signfoam. As for pricing, I would see what the Sign Contractors Price guide says for letters this size and probably double it at least because of the small quantity. And why not paint it instead of vinyl wrap? A channel letter I assume would have a paint finish on the returns anyway. Just my thoughts. Edit: OK I just checked the book - two 30" insulation type foam letters, 2" thick = $138, add about $36 for Gatorfoam =$174 (minimum) plus any rush charge and I would probably add at least $150 for just doing one letter. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, Chuck. I don't know why they wanted SignFoam and not a less expensive material, although they are a high end design company which is more concerned with getting their work done right and on time according to their scedule. Anyway it worked out fine. The total came to $898(!) and we're actually picking up a check tomorrow(!!). Does GatorFoam come in 2 or 4" thickness? (Letters had to be 4")

Alan, I don't think Gatorfoam comes in 2" at least not the last time I checked, but there is another brand that does, I can't remember the name. I'm glad it worked out for you.
