This comes from my customer who believes he saw this done some years ago.
He claims it would give a smooth finish and no brush strokes.
It would seem to me that the screen might rub some gold off it it rubs the gold but what do I know. I've only done it twice.

Yes Bob it can,... but this process is not for the novice. Vertical screening is an old trick a friend & fellow letterhead showed me in charlotte awhile back,...you have to have a very good register & you only get one try,...
Silkscreening is an excellent way to back up gold on glass. Particularly if there is a lot of small detail. I've witnessed large numbers of Letterheads projects get screened with amazing results. I expect Kent Smith is the person who could give you all the particulars.

Many of us have specially designed custom tools we've made for ease in screen registration. You cansimply use double faced tape holding some small blocks on the glass and when you set the frame into these blocks it is in registration. Do the flood coat with the screen horizontal and set it up quickly and make your pass. I've seen it done with one shot lattering color and a very fine mesh, however, I prefer a screen enamel. Rick Glawson sells some products for this that are very tough, and he has quite a bit of helpful info.

Bob, I've been a screen printer for many years and wouldn't consider it unless I had several like pieces to do. I would however suggest backmasking your work and rolling the finish on with a small enamel finish roller or spraying in on from a can. You will achieve nearly the same finish and way less than half the effort. Jack
