Great stuff!! Water based size that produces an incredible shine. Take a look at a sign that’s posted in the portfolio area. Instacoll was the size of choice. That finish your looking at is nothing more than the size applied to the substrate, gold leaf applied with a “thumb tap” to adhere it. No burnishing, polishing, etc. A wonderful mirror finish with very little effort and very forgiving open times. Give it try!

NOTE: mirror finish is not the desired result for every application.

We use Instacol in carved or routed beads around sign edges and on decorative elements regularly. We learned not to use it on letters because it's too bright and therefore difficult to read. Mixing gold applications on signs is something we do regularly. Oil size on the letters, the brighter instacol size on the beads.

Instacol is not very fussy about dry times. We lay the size down, then put a coat of activator on it half an hour later. It can be gilded in another half hour or the next couple days, and all looks about the same.

The gild from this size is more the brilliance of a water size gild on glass, and it's able to endure fingerprints better than oil size.

I know it's sold by Esoteric Sign Supply, and like everything they sell, it can comme with fantastic verbal instructions.

Felix, glad you brought up this question.
I would like to learn more about instacoll also. But I'm especially glad I got to see Bob's sign, along with reading his breifing on the instacoll process. It encourages me more to try it.
Felix, I gotta chuckle, ... I'm watching your activity on this board the past couple days, and you have all the signs of someone whose "just landed back down" from their first Letterhead meet!

Bob, don't know how, but I missed seeing that sign on the portfolio page. What an absolute peice of jewelry!!! You did a fine job all the way around. Right down to the mount! Beeeauteeful!
