I know this has subject has been discussed over & over but, would someone remind me why you must or feel like you must give credit. I can't understand why Sign Shop's feel they must. I had a lot of people on this BB tell me they have to do it if they do business with large companies. But against popular belief I am living proof you don't have to. My business has been operating for almost 16 years with gross sales of $200,000 plus a year, for the past 12 years. I'm saying how much I earn to make a point that you don't make that kind of income without some large accounts. Not once have I gave credit, I always get a 50% deposit and the balance due when you come to get your (whatever) and I do get paid in full before I will leave the shop to hang it. I am very up front with company policy, very polite and professional. I've had only one customer who didn't want to pay up front and we did not do business together then, but just last month he returned wanted a 4 ft X 24 ft alum. sign and brought check book in hand I gave him a price then he said that will be a 50% deposit correct, yes sir I said. Either of us do not mention the before incident. Customers get away with getting credit out of you only because you let them. Now by no means am I saying everyone should do this the way I do, But it works for me and I do believe it can work for anyone. Most people respect honesty up front those who don't respect the way I operate my business, well I don't want their business anyway. Like I said I'm very polite, politically correct, professional, good customer relations is what I emphasize but make no mistake I am the boss I do not work for my customers, I provide a service for them a service they must pay for.
