Someone oncew told me a good rule of thumb is to set your posts 1/3 the height of the overall sign height. 12' divide by 3 = 4' deep. As far as what type of posts to use 6x6 treated posts or 6'' dia steel posts.
Hope I've been of some help??

Felix the depth of the poles is dependant on the type soil they go into,....deeper for sandy loose soil not quite as deep for hard clay. The number of poles is also a variable. hope this helps ya!

In my opinion Felix, use treated wood poles. It will be less work drilling and bolting later on. I'm also with the 1/3 of the height theory. Sub contract the structure out if you have to. GOOD LUCK!
Hey Felix...How's the weather down there. It is HOT as a Bas#%@d up here!!
