Neat machine that prints money all day long if you know your market or develop one. List price for a new EDGE2 is $21,995.00. List price for the original machine is $15,995.00. Used EDGE2’s are very rare, of the few I’ve seen available, average price was about $18,500.00 (which may be more than you’ll pay for a new one depending on your choice of distributor and promotions) Private sales of the original machine are between $7,000 - $9,500, some I’ve seen go for $10,000. Dealer sales are about the same but usually contain some type of warranty (value added item).

As much as I love the machine, the machine is not the answer for everyone. Plus, it will require a 15” sprocket plotter, and, to take full advantage of the machine, Gerber’s OMEGA CP software (or older Composer Premier). So those prices above for the machine are just part of the overall picture. Unless of course you already own the plotter and software.

Some deals are out there! Just depends how much of a hurry your in, your ability to “deal,” and timing. Visit Gerber’s website for current promotions and information on the machine. You may also want to visit [http://www.hyatts.com]Hyatt’s Graphic Supply,[/url] as they can be very aggressive with used machines. (Gerber was a former merchant here; don’t believe Hyatt’s ever was, such a shame!)

Also, stop over at an EDGE specific forum, 4edgetalk.com, to get your questions answered before and after you get a machine. Plus some tips-n-tricks as well.

You can lease one ($550 per month give or take.

Just get rid of that new car, buy an old beater car, use the money you save on the new car to lease the Edge, make money, buy the new car again next year! hahahahahahahha

Beg, borrow or steal the money to buy or lease an Edge. I've got the Edge 1 and have had it for almost six years. It has paid for itself many, many, many times over and still works just fine. We use ours everyday for our own customers and also do work for other sign shops. It is awesome and even after six years still amazes me.....

If you guys are talking to Gerber, tell them they need to setup a shop in Letterville again. I can't believe the dough these marketing guys spend on "sign shows" and other forms of advertising. They seem to thing signmakers wear nice suits and carry briefcases. Don't they realize their real customers are here in Letterville?

My Edge never seems to amaze me every day, Don't get caught up on the price glenn, your competion will and you'll be making more money.

It will pay for itself!!

Maybe old man Gerber would realize what a resource letterville would be but this new regime could go take a flying f**k in a lake as far as I'm concerned.

I still love my Gerber products but I'm leary about the future and Gerber.

If they do advertise again make sure they pay cash LOL

There are deals out there, maybe
I bought mine from a dealer before the new one came out, this is my third year.
It paid for itself in the first year.
and I use signlab to do most of my artwork,
then export to gerber as a gad file,
eliminating most of the hassle using the
gerber graphic advantage software.
I think the new gerber regime needs some education as to who uses their machines,
and how. Or maybe they no longer care about the little guy. I don't know.

Since you worded your question CAN you gross nearly $200K in just one year instead of DO you gross nearly $200K in just one year, Glenn the answer would be yes, easily. A good day striping for me is $1000, I have done over$2000 a day before. Unfortunately the work isn't there to pull it off but I'm not a good enough salesman to be able to make the Edge work any better, plus the lease on the Mack is more to my liking

Glenn's comment is the right way way to look at any purchase, not how much something costs but how much can I make with it. For me the answer is still not clear as far as the Edge. I have sold one set of prints from the Edge which I purchased wholesale. No market or brilliant idea has opened up to me as to how to sell and market the output.
I suppose those that screenprint are in a much more advantageous position to tap into their existing market and use the Edge.

You hit the nail on the head, David.

I don't know if anyone remembers an earlier thread where someone said he was thinking about quitting the sign biz. I suggested that he "adapt" rather than quit. That is exactly what an Edge can do for any sign shop.

And George, "Do" you generate over $200k consistantly with your Macks in the comfort of your air conditioned office?

I'm just pick'n of course. My point is that I've reached a point in my life where I have to be more concerned about making money. The fact is that I seriously doubt I have half the talent you have with a brush. So, I learned to adapt to my market. Plus, I'm a very lazy person and I work very hard at it!

Not that pinstriping isn't a great way to make money, but adding an Edge to your shop is like adding two employees who don't ever complain or take time off. It is entirely possible to pinstripe WHILE your Edge is running. When this happens, a pinstriper is not only making one large per day using his hands, he is also making a few clams with his "machine" that takes a dollar piece of vinyl and turns it into $20...or more. Not being one to ever, ever criticize anyone but why would anybody want to buy 25k worth of swords? You only have two hands. You also have one brain and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that you can do both...pinstripe and run an Edge. One other thing to think about....Sometimes it's possible to take a square foot of vinyl and turn it into several hundred dollars. We've done that quite a few times....and it's really fun.

For those who can't see how they would market the Edge, I sympathise. If you look at the edge as a photo machine you will finds it hard to make it pay for itself.

If you do any work that has airbrush fades or mutiple color jobs such as outlines and shadows, then the edge will save you a LOT of time which is a LOT of money.

We did a job the other day that had 6 colors in it just a standard contractor job but nicely done. We printed it out all prespaced on one layer of white vinyl. It cost less to produce and a LOT less time to apply, not to mention the weeding time reduction and the amount of application tape used.

We charge the same price, and make more money.

Lou it would take more than a "genius" to pinstripe and run an edge simulaneously in my case since I work mobile!!!!!!

WE, AT LETTERCO, ARE ALSO THRILLED WITH THE EDGE. WE HAVE HAD OUR EDGE ALMOST SEVEN YEARS. WE HAVE HAD VERY FEW PROBLEMS WITH IT AND HAVE HAD GOOD EXPERIENCES WORKING WITH THE FIELD SERVICE PEOPLE OVER THE TELEPHONE.

GERBER SCIENTIFIC HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST WELL ROUNDED SUPPLIERS OF THEIR TOTAL PACKAGE. WE NOW HAVE AN EDGE, ODESSEY AND STILL ARE RUNNING THE 4B (IT WON'T DIE). I ALSO HOPE THAT THIS CONTINUES.
