If you were using the Mack brushes with the string wrapped ferrels I can understand what you are speaking of, but metal ferrels which basically are flat have been made for years.
Scharf still makes an excellent striper which is still great after all these years
Selig ( Sid Moses) sells many different stripers including the Mack take-offs of Grumbacher and Scharf.
Cosmos, Domicican and Germans which may not be manufactured anymore but are still available, all have flat metal ferrels.
Check out the custom made pinstriping brushes made by Lazerlines at http://www.lazerlines.com they have a Grumbacher type ferrel and hair which is removable from their custom lite-weight aluminum handle. Grumbachers although first made in N.Y.C. then N.J. eventually were made in Maine and now make these specially designed units for Lazerlines.
Hope this helps!
