OK - Here's the scoop. I got Bob on a flight to O'Hare Airport in Chicago on Thursday night, Aug. 2. He will fly in on American Airlines and will arive about 9:08pm.

O'Hare is only 40 min. south of Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee and they wanted $365.00 for a direct flight from KC to Milwaukee. So $128.80 plus tax for a flight to O'Hare seemed like a better buy. I also booked Bob's room at the Select Inn for $55.99 a night for a king-size bed.

Total will be around $335.00 or so for everything!! I put everything on my credit card for now so send the cash when you can Joey, Pat, Steve, Jon, David, Kent, Sara, Ray, Cam, Chris and Bob D. That averages out to about $28.00 per person but if you want to wait I will get a better accounting after the meet. Some are willing to chip in more so if $25.00 is all you want to do then that's quite alright.

Now, who can get Bob from O'Hare to Milwaukee on Thursday night, Aug. 2 at 9:08pm?? I am looking into a bus and will likely be able to get him direct from O'Hare to Mitchell Airport. From there anybody can get him - even me.

I will be there Thursday night to Sat. noon but Bob flies back first thing Sunday morning at 8:30 am so we need to get him back there also. If you can get Bob from O'Hare to the meet direct on Thursday night that would be great. We also need to get him to O'Hare Sunday morning.

Who can help this timeless legend with a little local transportation? We're doing our part - can you??!!

Thanks in advance for the help.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?

I am confused about the date. To our understanding, the meet starts at 9am, Thursday. Won't Bob be missing the first day?

Steve,

Yes, he will miss most of the first day. That was the earliest flight I could get him on though. I couldn't book a flight for Wednesday because all airlines have a 7 day minimum for booking flights before the price skyrockets. So I had to do it for Thursday or the price would have been closer to $600 to $700. That's why.

Still a great deal though, eh? This way he gets his room too!! (Thanks for your help on this, Steve)

Well, you can mail the money to me but I really don't want to get any extra but what I spent on his ticket and room ( unless he watches lots of "movies" in his room ).

If there are extra donations then I would like suggestions on what to do with it.

Here's my address:
Jay Allen - 7727 Burden Rd. - Machesney Park, IL 61115

See you at the meet!!

Hey, dudes!
Try Amtrak! There's a big ol'train station in Chicago, I'm leavin outta there @ 10:20 am or 1pm,(Aug.1) it only takes about 90 minutes to get to M'Waukee, and trains are cheap! Plus, they serve beer, so you don't care if you're sitting by a guy with stinky sox!

Roger - and others,

Wow!! We really are a bunch of nice people aren't we? I am honored to be a part of a profession that offers so much - while asking for so little in return. Generosity is all around us - but Letterheads seem to do it with so much more style than just an oversized check. A legend like Bob missed out on the renaissance of this craft - but still contributed to the advancement of it with his work. He will always be mentioned when talking about the "best".

I really only want to cover Bob's airfare and room and maybe meals - but what do I do if the money goes over the amount needed? I'd really like to know what to do with that.

God bless you all - on Bob's behalf - and mine. We'll make sure he never forgets this 81st birthday gift from the Letterheads.

It was done for purely selfish reasons Jay. I like to to hear Bob's nasty, Vegas showgirl stories.
