Hi Heads. Every now and then, I go on a sources & materials expedition, looking for new materials that might have some application toward building and erecting signs. In my most recent scavenger hunt, I came across some really nice porch column supports at Home Depot that were made from rotocast fibreglass reinforced polymers. This is a hard finish type plastic that won't rot, absorb moisture, stains or fungus.
These columns apparently can also be ordered in wood as well. I thought if you had a look at them, it might give you some ideas as to how these might be used to mount some nice high-end type signs. Their website & on-line catalogue is at:
