I need to insert eyebolts into 18x14 signfoam signs to hang from a bracket with chain links.I was told to use two part epoxy but that doesn't seem to hold..any tips would be appreciated. I was thinking of using "Liquid Nail" type of glue..

Yo, Fergie! First, predrill the holes significantly smaller that the eyebolts. Put a small amount of PB240 into the holes, screw in the bolts and let it stand 12 hours. That's all you need to do. The PB240 expands and melds with the HDU. BTW......It's unlikely you'll get the bolts out again without wrecking the sign.
If the holes are already there, no big deal. Just put a bit more PB240 in. Remember it expands 4 times it's own volume.

could you make the signs like the one shown in my how to www.casscomm.com/~utter/hdu.htm and attach the bolts to the metal frame? It is a little more involved, but I personally would be able to sleep better at night....

Mario...What part isn't working using epoxy? If the bolt pulling out of the epoxy or is the "plug" of epoxy pulling out of the signfoam?

Fergie, if you're not convinced, go to our website and look at the Dalen Dental clinic signs. There are 4 12"x48" double sided carved signs all suspended one above the other and tied together with eyehooks and eyescrews. That particular series has been up for 4 years with no problem. Hanging method is exactly as I described to you, and it's a lot more weight than you're describing.

Mario...I would also think that using the drill bit to "widen" the hole at the bottom would be an idea. Stick the bit into the hole and ream out the hole so it is wider at the bottom than at the top. BUT the stuff Pierre is talking about would probably work...If I ever heard of it before! LOL

Thanks Guys I agree with Dave, Pierre what is PB240??? hehehehehe I realize that it is not recommended to hang the SignFoam signs. This is my first experience with the stuff. All my previous sandblasted signs were made from Cedar and all I had on the top was L-brackets lag screwed.

On the subject signs they're 3/8" eye/screw bolts and they're 5" into the signs.
Fergie, on larger signs we usually make the double sided out of two pieces of HDU back to back. We rout a 1/4" channel down the backs of both so that a 1/2" rod can be laid into the channel and be "sandwiched" between the two. The bottom of the rods have a 2" square plate welded to them and the tops are bent in a "J" shape. THis gives full support to the sign from the bottom with NO stress on the sign itself. We bond the thwo halves together with PB240 and hang it and walk away without a backwards glance.

Mario Do you have a EM plastic supplier near you? They have a product call Lords Engineered Adhesives.. Amazing product but a little pricey.. I like Daves idea in putting a bottom plug area. Hope this helps.

I'm a little late on this one, but if it was me, and you are only dealing with 14 inches of height, I would just run a piece of 1/4" all thread all the way through the sign. Hide the nut(with a washer)at the bottom in a recess hole with a plug and then screw a female threaded eye hook on the top end of the all thread. At this point there is no weight stress on the top of the signfoam at all. All the weight is tranfered to the bottom of the sign.
Mario, if you can't track down PB240, go to your local Home Depot type store and get some Gorilla Glue. It's almost the same stuff. I use both products and get the same results. Good luck.

Gorilla Glue is what I would use. It is a urethane glue itself and is the strongest glue I have found so far. A little dab-will-do-ya.
